How Long Do You Think You Will Live?

My good friend, Jean sent me a link to a Lifespan Calculator that was created by Northwestern Mutual Life.

Here's the link to this Lifespan Calculator.

Your age changes (up and down) on the upper right hand corner as you answer the 14 health and family history questions.

I do think we eat pretty healthy meals.  This was our dinner the other night.  We usually eat mostly vegetables of some sort.  What you see here is stir fried pak choy, teriyaki lotus roots, rice with seaweed and a Japanese stew called nishime with fish cake, vegetables and a little chicken.

Art and I are supposed to live to be 99.  I have doubts since they never ask about diabetes, cholesterol, etc.  Still... it's fun to do.

  1. Haven't done the calculator, but I will live longer if I come live with you, since you, Art and Mom serve healthier food.

My Kansas grocery store is trying to be more tropical. Saw "Budda hands" fruit and 2 giant breadfruit, I think, each the size of 2 footballs, for $7 each. No instructions around the display about them or how to prepare them. Even bought a bag of 7 Meyer lemons for $4 to try them out. The bag says they're a combination of lemon and mandarian oranges. No papayas, though.

  3. Mine said 94!! I hope they are correct. They forgot to ask about genetics. My mom lived to 88 and my dad to 93 and I think that makes a difference.

  4. There is more to a long life than just what we eat. I'll go check that calculator out, though. :-)

  5. I tried out that calculator as part of my "new thing a day" project (original blog) five years ago. Glad to see it's still around. If I remember right it told me I'd live until somewhere in my 90s.

Lotus root is on my bucket list of vegetables to try.

  6. I certainly will not live to one hundred, I know that for sure, your family do seem very healthy, eating and exercise wise,

  8. I'm not sure I want to know how long I will live, but I am grateful to have made it to where I am now since my parents both died in their 50s. I'm sure curiosity will send me over to check out the calculator.

  9. OK, I tried it, supposedly 88, but if I change 2 things, it'd be 100. Not sure I want 100. DrumMajor

  11. This one said 94 but another version that had far more questions said 87. I tend to believe the 87 since that is closer to the age my mother died (86) and my grandmother (85). I would definitely love to live long enough to see great grandchildren, but that means my grandchildren will have to get married in their early 20s. That doens't seem to be the trend.

  12. How neat that you will Both live to 99. Mine said 91--if they are healthy years, I'll take it.

  13. I should easily live into my 90s, I just hope I am in reasonably good condition. No fun living that long if you are incapacitated and alone. Do you think we will run out of blog material? Dianne

  14. Apparently I'll live till I'm 99, which I find faintly horrifying especially as I made the mistake of putting my husbands details in too and because of his family history and the fact that he has a glass of wine every night, the only differences between us, he's only got 'til he's 89, and he's five years younger than me. Let's hope that life is kinder than calculators!

  15. Everybody: I don't think these life calculators are very accurate because there are too many other variables that are not asked. As I said, they don't ask about health history, etc. I'm younger than Art by 5 years but I'd like to go first please.

  16. May you and all your readers live long and prosper.
They should make a separate calculator for the Middle East.

  17. Yes, that is really fascinating. I'll live to 92, but the reality is that some parts of me are vastly older than others.

  18. Oh my. With both my first and present husbands with cancer, I just cannot do these!

  19. I'm guessing the weight category added years to your life expectancy. I came in at 94,which is about right, based on my parents: Mom (87), Dad (93), his Mom (96). Interesting that the test factored in driving a car. I have become very aware of the chaos out there when I drive. Unfortunately, one can also live TOO LONG, beyond health, both physical and mental.
