Hank Chapin, one of my favorite Hawaii based commenters has been advising me for the longest time to print my travel or family albums at Costco. I didn't think it would work for our situation because we like to really record things in detail. I also like using thought and speech bubbles.
Most of the photobooks I've seen didn't give us the option to write so much text. They were also too small, the fonts too big, etc.
However, at Hank's urging I looked into the possibilities. We checked the cost at Snapfish, Pickaboo, and Costco and found Costco had the best price for additional pages. They also allowed me to print 8.5" x 11" pages.
Now there was just the formatting problem to worry about.
Thinking outside of the box, I realized that I could still create my pages on PhotoRecord and save each page as one jpg photo which I could format onto the Costco page as a single image. Goodness! I hope that makes sense.
Anyway, the book arrived, and we were absolutely amazed!
It is gorgeous! The binding is beautiful and takes up much, much less space than our binders.
The photo pages were also crisp and clear. We can still hardly believe it.
Now I'm truly sorry I didn't do the other albums this way.

ReplyDeleteI normally wouldn't have printed our trip to Illinois, but I wanted to see if it could be done using a smaller set of photo pages. This book was 38 pages. Our normal travel books are often over 100 pages (50 front and back). We always print the books for mom. She loves to share them with her sisters and some neighbors. We'll be taking her to Japan again so now we know that these photo books are a better option because her book shelf is getting rather full.

ReplyDeleteI'm speechess at how good your book is. The only word I can think of is, "Fantastic." Glad I played a role, but you did all the heavy lifting. I'm going to tell my daughter abut this, as she is the one who gave me the idea to give you the idea. She made a book out of the slide show used for a family Memorial Service.

Now I don’t know how you have the time and the energy to do so much – travel, cook, garden, post so often, go out with friends, exercise, and more… I am in awe. I just post once a week or less and don’t know where the time goes. I wish I could “retire” from retirement so I’d have more time to do more!

Hello Margaret, actually it's really OK to send my posts to a friend or relative. People do it often. I need to correct that Copyscape thing. What we bloggers don't appreciate is people copying and then reproducing the post elsewhere without telling us.
