I happened to be checking out Facebook and found a bunch of cleaning tips that I thought I'd share with you.
* After cleaning your toilet, place the brush under the toilet seat and close the lid to hold it there. Now that Art cleans the toilet I showed him this little hint. I'm sure he was very excited.
POSTSCRIPT: Oops! I'm sorry. I forgot to tell you the reason for putting the brush under the toilet seat is have the brush drip and dry into the toilet instead of in the brush holder.
* If you aren’t a fan of dryer sheets because of the smell
or the residue they leave, you can use balls of aluminum foil to eliminate
static cling instead. Just roll up about two feet of foil into a ball and throw
it in the dryer. Use two or three balls for heavy loads. The best thing is you
don’t have to replace them! I don't have static cling in Hawaii so I asked my daughter to do this for me and tell me if it worked.
* Put Lego or other similar toys that can get grimy and gross in a lingerie bag and throw it in the wash cycle for a good clean. I really like this idea. I'm going to try it if my grandkids decide they'd like to play with the Legos I have in our toy closet. Art thinks I should put them in the dishwasher instead of the washing machine.

* Your shower head is prone to a buildup of all kinds of
stuff. To clean it, just tie a bag of vinegar around the shower head and leave
it to soak overnight.
* If you have dryer sheets you can use the used ones to wipe down baseboards. Since they
are anti-static they will keep the baseboards dust free longer. Ummm.... I hate to admit it, but I don't clean my baseboards. Oops! Now you know.

Cleaning Tip Number 1: Hire someone to do the basics every two weeks. This saved our marriage.
ReplyDeleteTerry soaks the shower head in a bowl of vinegar every couple of weeks as we have very hard water here. He also cleans out the washing machine water inlet as it too builds up sand and grit.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE my Roomba - my automatic robot vacuum cleaner. The only hard part is emptying out the dust collector. It also makes me move things out of its way, and after awhile I get tired of moving things that I don't need, so I am de-accessing!
For wet mopping as well as toilet bowl cleaning, Fabuloso is fabulous. The purple one smells so good and has replaced our Pinesol. I did like the Pinesol smell too, but I like Fabuloso better.
I don't enjoy cleaning or cooking. My goal is to have a live in cook/maid and a glorious massage chair.
I'd like to ask your akamai posters if they know of any easy or fast way to get rid of lint on black clothes. We don't have a dryer which normally removes them, and I don't have enough black or dark clothing to wash them separately. I was hand washing them but that's a pain. I bought a mesh lint remover that hotel's use but I still have to run it 3 to 4 times over a small area to get rid of it all. I tried the tape type roller but that's even less effective. Actually I use both rollers to get the lint off. I searched the internet but no useful suggestions...I was even considering buying a dryer just for that! BB

ReplyDeleteSorry about that, Red. I just added a correction. Putting the brush under the toilet seat allows the brush to drip into the toilet instead of the brush holder after you use it.
DeleteI am with Art about putting toys in the dish washer. I think that is a great idea for sanitizing them.

ReplyDeleteI don't have much static cling here in the PNW either, but the foil balls are interesting. Confession - I don't clean my baseboards either.
ReplyDeleteThese are great tips for those who clean baseboards etc. I hired a housecleaner at my husband's insistence after he returned to work. He always helped me so much, and to be honest, I was missing the help. Now, I don't have to do all that cleaning because these helpers are awesome.

ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I also find that vinegar works great for the water spots and calcium/lime buildup on stainless steel sinks. It also removes stains left from hard water in flower vases. We have very hard water, so always trying to stay ahead of the calcium/lime buildup.

ReplyDeleteI grew up in my Dad's janitorial business, so there were always lots of tasks to rotate and juggle. Now in my own home, I am always (OCD?) alert to something not right and I do it right then and there:
ReplyDeletedust, dust pan and small broom as needed (carpets too) Mornings light shows ALL the dust! I like to steam my floors rather than mop.......
My timely tip is Don't leave all the cleaning until the last week before Pesach. I say it every year and never follow my own advice. :(
