Yes, it's true. I'm getting older and weaker. Perhaps I need to stop carrying so much in my backpack. Whatever....
I've been noticing that my backpack holding my Kindle, iPad, extra clothes, snacks, journal, magazines, etc. is feeling rather heavy and uncomfortable.
Last week, we were wandering around TJ Maxx looking for something else when I spotted this!
I was surprised to see this small 18" tall carry-on for $49. They must be making them smaller in response to possible new airline rules. They list it as 17", but they're not counting the wheels.
Then I saw this one and was even more intrigued. It's a teeny bit shorter and it has an opening at the top so you can actually put it under the seat in front of you and have access to snacks or whatever.
If I have this I really don't need a heavy backpack.
However... That handle at the top puts a lot of stress on the plastic zipper.
So we went to Ross to check out their discounted luggage.
Remember... I wasn't even looking for luggage and got sidetracked.
And look whatwe I found! This was only 16.5" tall with a top opening so you can access things if you store it in front of you. And it was only $39. I had to get it.
Here's my collection of carry-ons through the years. They've gotten progressively smaller. I had even bigger ones that I donated a long time ago. The wheels on the red one is actually broken. It's usable but the rubber on the wheels had sort of melted off.
Art says I just have to keep in mind that he refuses to be caught anywhere holding my new blue bag. I wonder if that's why nobody else bought it. On the other hand, maybe nobody will want to steal it.

I have noticed the same. My carry-ons are smaller! Tell art that no one notices elderly men anymore and he could be carrying a pink lace fan!

ReplyDeletesmaller and lighter is the way to go...I've noticed how heavy my purse is these days especially as I deal with a torn rotator cuff. Time to lighten up in more ways that one...lol!

ReplyDeleteI love that new bag. I have a tiny, sideways Samsonite I got at our thrift store. At about the time I got it, we stopped traveling. I have to go looking to see if now I can find an even smaller one.
ReplyDeleteI work at Hawn Air and a coworker and I bumped into each other at Costco when we were both examining a very small roller bag for $29.99. My coworker bought one because she said it can fit under the seat in front of you but you can expand it if need be. Comes in black or blue. I wish more travelers would travel with smaller roller bags.

ReplyDeleteIt is good the airlines are downsizing at the same rate as our aging strength. At least if anyone steals that, they will be easy to spot.
ReplyDeleteI have an old rolling collapsible duffel like carryone that still just makes the regulations. It is leopard print so nobody would take it.
ReplyDeleteI do like the new bags that roll in every which way and glide along but I hardly travel, so don't need that.
Last weekend, I was the driver for a visiting guest sewing artist. She wanted to shop at Ala Moana. We went into a luggage store - Rimowa. I was shocked at the prices - $600+ for a hard case rolling bag! They were extremely beautiful but I am more used to my Ross luggage bought on Tuesdays with 10% off for seniors. She bought the bag - in a gorgeous peach color. I almost gagged.
I'm with you. My daughter and son-in-law had a really beautiful set of luggage and they were badly damaged by the airlines. They don't buy expensive luggage anymore. We've been buying all our luggage at Ross these days too.
DeleteThat is such a neat little piece of carry-on luggage.... So glad you found it and like it.... We desperately need to invest in some new luggage PERIOD... Ours is old --but still functions.... I'm sure it's heavier though than some of the newer luggage out there...

ReplyDeleteLuggage is way too expensive these days. I think yours looks cute and a great buy, but more importantly it looks like a comfortable bag for traveling. We have really got to start downsizing on ours.
