We received what someone might have thought was junk mail.
What a shock! There was a $5 bill and request by the Nielsen Ratings Media Study to answer a short survey on our radio/TV habits. They said that if we sent our survey in, another $5 would be sent to us. This is pretty incredible!
Can you imagine just how many people tossed these envelopes in the trash thinking it was junk mail? It boggles your mind. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that I could only give one answer for my favorite TV show. Darn! I have several and it's hard to choose which one is my favorite. I finally settled on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
What would you choose?

They actually send cash through the mail? As to TV shows we watch Netflix mostly and occasionally TCM old movies.

I should check junk mails more often, one never can tell. That's a great marketing tactic, I'll give them that. Its hard to pick one show, and that's a great one you picked. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteI actually won $5,000.00 in a drawing I got into for filling out a survey when I bought my Subaru in 2008. They sent me an email telling me this and asked for my social security number, so I was quite positive it was a sort of phishing scam. But I called the dealership and asked them to check this out for me. It was real. Apparently, not that many people fill out the surveys so the odds of winning were pretty good.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I have received keys in the mail. Supposedly I could take them to the dealer and if the key starts the car on display it would be mine but I never tried it. I open all junk mail because that's what they asked for recycling pick up years ago. I usually open it and drop it right into the bin, but if a 5 dollar bill fell out I might notice it.

ReplyDeleteI watch mostly PBS and Brooks and Shields on Friday. I also watch Forensic Files and Snapped. Most TV I can get is just trash...with dozens of silly commercials. Those ad agencies don't think we have a brain. Many don't. Look at the president we have now.
ReplyDeleteWow, inflation. When I did it I only got one dollar all told. Hey Nielsen, I'm in Arkansas. Too often shows I like get cancelled. Have fun and be heard.

ReplyDeletePicking one show is hard, but "Madame Secretary" is right up there and is indicative of the kind of serious drama we like.
Congrats on being paid for your input. Arbitron (ARB) was the predominant TV rating service in the beginning, but gradually became overtaken by Nielsen, so ARB stopped compiling TV data in early 1990s. I recall receiving forms from ARB in the late 1960s and being asked to record my TV viewing for a week. All that data collection I provided free. Commercial network TV today I would give the nod to Madame Secretary; PBS my vote would be for Charlie Rose. I choose to have antenna TV so don't see any cable originated shows.

ReplyDeleteGood to know about the $$ in the envelope. I will be opening up everything now! I would be hard put to answer which is my favorite. Maybe Modern Family because it makes me laugh so much. Everything else is a little too political for me.

ReplyDeleteI guess I'd choose the PBS News Hour, it's the one I watch most often. Most of my entertainment these days is from Netflix and Amazon, I hardly ever watch series on TV any more. :-)
