I was checking out my clothes and saw that I had 5 blouses with holes on the front where the metal button of my jeans had rubbed against it every time I was at the sink washing dishes or cooking.
I guess this doesn't happen to everybody. It's just that I'm the perfect height where that button and the counter edge meet.
I was mentioning this to my Zumba buddies and they said it doesn't bother them because they wear their boro boro clothes when they're at home.
It took me a second to realize what they meant by "boro boro." I hadn't heard that Japanese word in a while and it made me smile. It means something that is tattered or repaired constantly.
I asked them if that meant they wore two blouses each day if they were going out and they nodded.
Gosh... That never occurred to me.
Well, guess what? I've got 5 blouses with holes in them which will now be my boro boro homewear.
That solves that problem. Now I just have to remember to change before I leave the house.

I am somewhat surprised that everyone doesn't wear different clothes at home and when out. In winter at least, I wear track pants at home and jeans when out.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite clothes often turn in boro boro (new word for me) clothes as they wear out. I recently noticed the holes in one of my favorite long sleeve Ts. I'm often changing clothes throughout the day, depending on the schedule - schlepping around the house, out and about in public, outdoor activities.

ReplyDeleteI am somewhat of a slob, so I wear sweats or stretch at home. If I promise myself to exercise, I try to wear exercise clothes so that I feel guilty at the day goes on and I have not exercised!
ReplyDeleteI dress for the day when I get up MOST of the time so that I don't have to change clothing. Having said that I do have some sweats for those coldest days, and in the heat of the sumer I have some long strappy maxi dresses/loungers that I wear around the house. But my outside of the house attire tends to be knit ankle pants and bright sweaters or tunics and I live in a casual area.

ReplyDeleteI have clothes I wear at home when I'm not expecting anyone and I have clothes I wear out to run errands. Then there are the dressier clothes I wear to public events. Those I remove as soon as I get home as most of them have to be dry cleaned and I wish to get more than a couple of wearings before they return to the cleaners. I try to cook in clothes that already have stains and that can just be tossed in the washing machine.

DeleteI wear an apron in the kitchen too. However, since I have boro boro clothing now, I’m not quite so religious about wearing that apron.

ReplyDeleteWow Kay! Some teens pay big bucks to buy jeans with tears already in them. Think of the money you've saved on those shirts.
ReplyDeleteI called them "grubbies:", clothes for gardening and getting "grubby" or for hanging around the house. When old nurse scrub tops start separating their threads at the collar, I put an "X" inside the collar and they become "grubbies."
Of course, there's always tape. When nurses discover a hole in their pocket that carries open pens, just grabbing some clear plastic nurse tape covers the hole until the next laundering. It takes a committee to decide if I repair it or declare it a "grubbie" shirt.

AHA! What a great idea! I need to put an X on my grubbies/boro boro because somebody keeps putting them into my going out section instead of the boro boro section in the closet.
DeleteI wear tanks and shorts with NO BRA. I haven't worn them in years, so if I go out I throw on another shirt, long sleeve over everything so nothing can be seen bouncing away. I prefer flannel shirts cuz they're light and comfortable. Long sleeve as I started to have a tan line of a tank top so anytime in the sun such as when I walk my dogs I am full covered up and when it's hot it keeps the sun off of me so I'm cooler. I no longer have tan lines. I only dress up if I have a doctor's appointment. I never see anyone so why bother to dress up. BB
ReplyDeleteI wear tanks and shorts too, but now it’s winter and I wear short sleeves or t-shirts and shorts. I just bought a flannel shirt from GAP and shortened the sleeves painstakingly. Then I went to Maryland. When it came out of the dryer, it had shrunk. Arrghhh! Happy New Year, BB! Wasn’t the fireworks nuts? This must be the most I’ve seen in 10 years right out my window!
DeleteBoro boro -- love it! My boro boro outfits are mostly beach stained and some other stains and rips. Unfortunately is a constantly growing segment of my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteA new term for me, but I will probably forget it until sometime later when I try to remember just what that word is! In Hawaii I suspect that you don't need nearly as much clothing as we do around here. I think I own six raincoats, for example. :-)
ReplyDeleteIn the winter I wear my "house" jeans until it's time to go out. If I'm careful I can get a whole week's worth of wears before they need to be washed. It's so hot in the summer that I need to start with a fresh outfit every day, but I definitely have some shorts that would fall into the boro boro category.

I shop at local consignment stores and this spring I need to refresh some of those tops.. but i will miss wearing them outside the house.One good thing..I belong to an art collective where we get paint and glue on us, so I can also wear my boro boro clothes to art group!! ReplyDeleteMy parents always wore a older T-shirt when at home and changed when going out to the commissary or PX or just shopping in general, then change back into the T-shirt when they got home. I've always worn an oversize T-shirt when home and changed when going out. I change clothes up to three times daily; clothes for home, clothes for workouts & walks, clothes for going out. We just never had a name for it. LOL
