Puzzling into the New Year

One of the things we like to do is finish as many projects as we can before going into a new year. This includes putting away Christmas decorations, cleaning out the fridge/freezer, organizing our office, paying our bills, etc. Granted we still have a number of projects we just haven't been able to finish. I'm still working on our 5 volume photobook of family photos and I think Art might clean the windows later.

BUT one thing Art DID manage to finish was that 3,000 piece Beatles puzzle our son sent in February to insure he stayed safe at home.

Art began the puzzle in March and started out by putting it on a huge cardboard sheet he happened to have.

He soon discovered that cardboard wasn't big enough.

Soooo... He took out another folding buffet table and another cardboard sheet.

And in April and several months after that, he made painstaking progress.

Every time mom went past him she would shake her head sadly and tell him how painful it looked.

Eventually, he forced himself to sit in front of the puzzle and spend a LOT of time on it.

He finally had to get a magnifying glass to see the details on the tiny pieces.

Sometimes, it was difficult for me to see that progress had actually been made.

If there's one thing about Art you have to know, he just doesn't give up. He also did not want to bring this project into the New Year so he sat and sat and sat for about a week while mom continued to shake her head sadly.

On Tuesday that big day came and he let mom put in the final puzzle piece since she had... as Art put it, "faithfully monitored my progress these past nine months."

Art was feeling such relief at finally being done that I didn't want to remind him about what our daughter had sent a couple of months ago.

Happy New Year, everybody!

  1. I'm with your Mom on this. It looks very painful and I admire the heck out of Art for finishing. Think I'd frame it. The city of Chicago looks really challenging also. Are you sure your kids love you and don't have any hidden resentments?:)) Kidding of course.

  6. Happy New year Kay, Art and Mom !
From my point of view, this looks like a fun project. I love a good puzzle and this one is colorful and interesting looking. I have to admit to not being a big fan of Rock & Roll though I do recognize some Beatles songs. My focus would probably be on the picture (haha). Art's organization and layout have given me some ideas :)

Keep us posted on the next project.

  8. Happy New Year! Puzzles are always painful for me and I can't imagine a 3,000 piece one. The Chicago puzzle is a mere 950 but is 3D to boot. That will be a challenge!

  14. Happy New Year. Decorations will be coming down tomorrow. 2021 files are on the list for clean up in January. 2021 photo book will be a February project while we are in Buffalo awaiting a new grandbaby and then helping out after the birth. There's bound to downtime while 4 yr old goes to school. Well that's the plan.

  15. That's certainly a long, but devoted time. I think my back would be hurting. Please glue and frame it. Then you can make a recording of all the Beatles tunes featured in the puzzle. Needing a magnifying glass is pretty small pics within a puzzle piece. Hope the New Year has smaller puzzles. After a break! (Any puzzles in / from Japan Mom might enjoy; if her vision is ok?) 1. Actually, we’re going to break the puzzle up into 9 sets and allow friends to work on it. It will make it a lot more manageable. Happy New Year, Linda!

  18. I got myself that 1000 piece one and had to put it away. With no experience I may need something smaller. 300 pieces is a huge endeavor. I keep my stuff up theu epiphany do next week will be hime reorganization. Happy new year.
