My daughter and family were here in Hawaii for three weeks this spring and we were so happy and grateful for all the help and advice they gave us during their stay.
My son-in-law, Ed was able to help purchase some kind of booster to make Art's computer a million times faster. Art had been struggling with a very slow Internet connection. Ed also installed a great app to store our passwords which were driving me crazy. He also taught us to freeze our Experian, Equifax and Transunion accounts so that no one can hack and open up accounts in our name. It's wonderful to have Tiffany, Ed and KC all here in person to check over how we're keeping safe.
But then, the other morning Tiffany showed me something else I appreciated knowing. I had been wondering about the latest cholesterol medication (Atorvastatin) I'd gotten from the hospital. The pills had the same shape but were different in color and had different marks on them in the same bottle.

It’s been a busy, happy and wonderful spring with our cruise with friends followed soon after by our daughter and family’s visit.
The house is quiet now.

I'm not sure how I lived with the internet before password managers. I've had one for several years and can't believe I went so long without using one. Good for you to freeze your credit. I've had mine frozen for ten years now or perhaps longer. It is nice to not have to worry so much every time you read of a database hacking.

ReplyDeleteWe froze our credit too but had to open it for something - house purchase or apartment rental? My password manager is a rolodex! And Kay is it still spring where you are? Or are you posting that far ahead that you've written your posts in spring and now its mid-summer?
ReplyDeleteI do usually write my posts one to two weeks in advance and schedule them to go up because I don't like having the pressure of not knowing what to post. It's definitely summer here in Hawaii, but much cooler than most parts of the mainland.
DeleteThey really gave you some first class advice and your son-in-law was like having an in house geek. I do use that pill identifier site sometimes. Usually my pharmacist will let me know they have a different supplier but the dosage is just the same.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful visit! My Walgreen's pharmacy usually has a note attached if a medicine has a different manufacturer with a different color, size or shape. I used to have a Roledex. If your computer is having trouble, how can you use it to store passwords? Or, that's what my brain is thinking. I have a little spiral notebook from a card shop where I list all of my passwords.

While a nursing student, my professor and I were getting meds from the hospital floor Pyxis unit, and she noticed that a manufacturer put the wrong strength of a med, cued by the wrong color that my prof was familiar with, within a pre-packaged bubble pack/card of pills! Never seen that happen again or since. Linda in Kansas
This was actually the first time that the pills were actually a different color. I'm glad my daughter was here to show me how to check. I just love having my son-in-law give our computers a check-up and instruct us on keeping safe.
DeleteI have always gotten advised when pills might look different from my pharmacy. The last time I picked up aprescription I had two different manufacturers filling one 90 day prescription. That was different!
ReplyDeleteDo you do FaceTime with your daughter's family? What with the time difference, I would think it would be perfect for them to FaceTime with you while they eat dinner and you all could discuss these type of things that came up during the in-person visit. We do that with our daughter and grandkids, usually before they have dinner because we eat so early and they are in the same time zone. We eat dinner, our daughter is often cooking theirs, and we take on all the stuff that's going on here and there. The grandkids share homework or books, we show what we've been up to. It opens up lots of conversations.
ReplyDeleteWe do talk on the phone constantly and I FaceTime with my grandson once a week. Mostly, we are texting back and forth daily. However, it's nothing like being together in person.
DeleteWe have not frozen our credit. Should we? I have a little notebook made specifically for passwords, and I keep some on my phone in Notes. Not very secure maybe. My pills all come by mail direct from the KP Pharmacy. Nothing suspicious so far.
ReplyDeleteI can't give much advice about finances, but my daughter and son-in-law deal with financial stuff all the time. They told me that freezing those accounts will prevent someone from going in as us and opening credit cards, etc. It's just a safety measure. You can unfreeze it in order to open a new credit card or whatever if you want to and then refreeze it again.
DeleteLin says kids can be helpful if you can get them to visit and slow down a little. My son helped me upgrade my laptop and that has been wonderful.

ReplyDeleteI have my credit frozen too and don't worry as much about hacking because of it. I got used to my daughter and family living here and it does seem quiet although also tranquil. I love that she now only lives 25 minutes away versus 2,800 miles.
