12 Days Before D(eparture) Day: 1st Thyrogen Injection

Yesterday was rather incredible. We had to leave the house because the people who will be conducting the sale would be going in and out throughout the week. They prefer owners to not be around to help.

It was also the day to start my thyrogen injections. The doctor's office told me to be there between 9-11:30 AM. However, when we arrived after over an hour's commmute at 10:30 there was only a substitute receptionist there. She said the nurse would be in at 2:00 PM and that the endocrinologist had taken the day off. We were not happy at all about it but it wasn't the receptionist's fault and the person who did the scheduling was also out of town.

Aggravation.

We decided to go to the mall right next door. When we walked in we saw that there was a movie theatre. We checked the times and found that Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was playing. We had just enough time to grab a quick lunch of Cajun bourbon chicken and got to the movie with 10 minutes to spare. The movie was loads of fun! I'm not sure why the critics were so hard on it. Maybe we just wanted to be entertained, but we sure were! The 2 hours sped by like the blink of an eye and when it was over, arrived again at the doctor's office by 2:09. Got the injection and headed toward our daughter's Chicago condo. Not much traffic. How amazing is that?

After arriving at our daughter's condo where we would be staying for the week, we decided to do some shopping. I found three terrific $6.00 blouses at Target that I love and our daughter prepared a fabulous dinner.

What a nice day! After that brief aggravation, somehow those lucky stars realigned themselves again and we were cleared for sailing. I'm pessimistic though. When things go well too long, I start expecting some equalizing hammer to drop. I've always felt that life is a balance of experiences. There's good and then bad that equalize itself. I'll be watching my back, keeping my fingers crossed and preparing myself to deal with whatever.

  1. I remember when my kids were little talking to them and telling them life was not fair, and then being struck by the notion for the first time myself. It was just over some little childhood thing, but it seemed very profound to me, and became a family joke. However, sometimes life is fair, and good things happen to good people. We all have our problems and heartaches, but maybe you shouldn't worry right now about the other side of the coin, just enjoy the good time. You are a good person, and you deserve it. Right above this box, it says "Have a full day of sunshine and happiness".
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment, I know your time is precious with so much to do.

  2. So glad you enjoyed the film. We thought it was great fun. I sometimes think the critics are 'down' on anything that's not 'worthy'. I do hope you don't have any side effects from your jab and have a good week at your daughter's (thanks to Candace I now know what a condo is!). It must be really weird to leave other people in charge of your house like that.

  3. So often incredible days arise from spontaneous/aggravating circumstances!! Turning a negative into a positive seems second-nature to you--glad you enjoyed the movie so much-- just what you needed in the midst of so much stress! I know what you mean about balance--I guess when you've experienced so much happiness and heartache, you somehow know how interchangeable they are--the see-saw of life!!

  5. You turned something annoying into something fun and relaxing. I'm sure you needed the down time; it was probably good for you too. Don't worry, you have many friends sending good wishes your direction.

  6. When I was still working, I gradually took on more leadership roles, and was always surprised and pleased when I was successful and received praise from my colleagues, but then I would say to myself, "Watch out. You are do for a humbling experience." Then when it came, it wasn't so severe. I call myself not a pessimist or an optimist, but a realist. It works for me.
Thenk you for leaving thoughtful comments on my blog. I wish you all the best as you make these transitions in health and geography.

  9. You are really good at problem solving. Someone else would have spent the day complaining and focused on the inconvenience of the situation [stuff that happens as a part of life.]
I was taught at a workshop to change the saying from 'Life's not fair' to 'Life's not equal.'
And it's true. Read my entry today. Everyone in life does not experience equal anything.
Things are going to work out for you, because you will find a way to make it happen. Sending good vibes your way!!!
