The whole of yesterday except for our very delicious and happy lunch in Chicago with our neighbors was spent preparing the house for the house/moving sale next Friday and Saturday. We’ll be meeting the person who will conduct the sale this morning. It’s rather a surprise to see how much we’ve accumulated. We used to love to collect collectibles and kept a lot of them in the attic. When we started to bring them down they quickly covered our floors. I hope the weather forecasters are wrong. They’re saying it will thunderstorm all week. I’m hoping it clears up by next Friday and Saturday. Our good luck so far may be running out.
This afternoon, my incredible teacher friends are having a farewell party for us. I’m giving them each a purse hook for a farewell gift. I love mine. It’s a little hook you put on the restaurant table and dangle your purse from. I hope they like it. Gosh! I’m going to miss them all so much! We worked together for 19 years and meet once a month to catch up with each other. Thank goodness for e-mail! I wish they would learn to blog.
Everything seems to be going pretty well so far, let's hope it continues in the same vein. Are house/moving sales common in America? I haven't heard of them, but it sounds like a great idea. Who organises them? Hope it goes well and you get rid of loads of stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes, house sales and garage sales are quite common... at least they are in Illinois. There are people who make it a profession to conduct the sales. They advertise, price and arrange everything and take 25% of whatever they sell for you. I just hope most of everything is sold so we won't have to deal with it when we return in a week. It will take them all week to do the work because they usually do this as part-time work and they want owners to be out of the house.

I remember the last time I moved[18 years ago]it was overwhelming. I would imagine a day in the not too far future[like Thanksgiving Day]sitting in my [new]living room with my feet up[in my recliner]. And smiling because so much of the moving process was already done and life was returning to a sense of normalcy. So pick a day[it's a light at the end of the tunnel of moving]and hang on!!And don't forget to breathe in through your nose, and then let it slowly out of your mouth like you are blowing out a candle. It works! Continued good luck to you.

ReplyDeleteThe stuff we own is just stuff. People are important, and it seems that you have lots of people who care about you. What do you get to do for the week they are emptying your house?
teacher retired: We'll be staying with our daughter in Chicago. I'll also be undergoing the thyrogen tests to see if I'm cleared of thyroid cancer cells in other parts of my body. That will take all week. Two days of injections, one day for the radioative pill and then 2 days of scan. I'll be glad when that's over with!

ReplyDeleteActually, he got the quite bad wound from jogging. Weirdest thing. He tripped and scraped his leg badly. Did he stop? No..... he did his usual run and then cleaned up. Tsk.
