It really drives me crazy when I get Unknown Caller on my caller ID. Sometimes I can't stand the suspense and I'll pick it up to find out it was a political or market survey or solicitation of some sort. We don't do phone donations. I've already put our phone number on the No Call list, but people do still get through.
Then there are those times when there's just a phone number and no name. What to do? What to do?
Art has told me that I should just let the answering machine pick it up. If it's all that important, the person should leave a message.
I've been told that if it says Unknown Caller, it means the person purposely programed his phone to be anonymous.
So I'm assuming if it was somebody trying to contact me to tell me I won that Zippy's (restaurant) trip to Vegas, it would definitely say Zippy's on my caller ID, right?

Ha ha Kay. I never answer calls from numbers I do not know. And Unknown Caller can be anyone from overseas too. I have the same philosophy as Art - if its something important they will leave a message. And by the way you have something in the post already - its been sent.
ReplyDeleteWow! No kidding? This is so exciting! Thanks Lilly!
DeleteI get the occasional call like that on my cell. I have actually blocked one of the numbers. I gave money to a political campaign and now get lots of requests on my cell for more. I don't pick up numbers I can't identify any more, because I don't know how to say no. (Don't tell anybody!) :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I didn't know you could block calls. I'm going to check because there are a couple of really annoying calls that we keep getting.
DeleteI've never had a call from Unknown Caller where when I picked it up, it wasn't a telemarketer or now a political call. Right now we are getting tons of survey calls for the election. My oldest daughter, who moved out this summer, keeps getting calls for election surveys because I think she's registered as an Independent.
ReplyDeleteI have learned NOT to answer numbers we don't know, unknown or private calls. One of the funniest was an electronic call for someone named Massey Raffe and if I wasn't Massey Raffe I was supposed to press #1 and not listen to the message they were leaving, which they then left on my answering machine about poor Massey Raffe's bad credit. Wonder what would have happened if I had picked up the phone and pressed #1. This call came practically every day for several weeks.
ReplyDeleteGood grief! That's really crazy! Poor Massey. I wonder if they found him.
DeleteRing, ring, Kay -- junk stuff calling.
ReplyDeleteIf you hover over your phone, and the message starts out with someone you know, you can always pick up the phone, or call them back.
The DO Not Call listing still legally permits charity and political calls. It also permits annoying calls from anyone you've ever done business with, such as a current credit card trying to sell you additional services.
Ask Zippy's to notify you in writing.
Good luck, DrumMajor
Trouble is often times it lists a phone number so I still don't know who's calling. Yesterday, I picked up the phone anyway and it wasn't a phone number I recognized. It was our accountant telling us that he'd been in the hospital for 15 days getting treatment for leukemia and that was the reason why he hadn't been able to contact us. Sheesh! Thank goodness I picked it up that time.
DeleteI don't have caller id on my home phone-it costs more and it's hard to let it ring to take a message but I do have a credit company that has called me for years despite my answering and pressing 1 or 2 to get off their list, despite my politely answering and asking to be put on their do not contact list, despite my registering on do not contact list and reporting them. i have a neighbor who has a recording that always comes on when you call her If you are a marketer hang up. But it's very irritating to hear that each time you call her. There doesn't seem to be a solution....
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not busy I'll pick up the phone just to avoid them leaving messages on my answering machine!
ReplyDeleteNever thought about calls from a contest or sweepstake....what a dilemma lol
ReplyDeleteShouldn't they let you know in writing if they can't reach you by phone?

I suppose so... I guess that means I didn't win that trip to Vegas, hunh? :-)
DeleteMy friend Ann gets zillions of unknowns calling. Probably because they do dog rescue and contribute to many animal causes. I love their message: You have reached xxx-xxxx. If you have not reached this number in error, please leave a message. But the unknowns never get to hear it because their computer hangs up when it realizes it didn't contact a live person.
ReplyDeleteI swear that "do not call" list is being sold to telemarketers. LOL
ReplyDeleteHope you do win the trip to Vegas. That is, if you really want to go to Vegas.

I registered my phones with the DO NOT CALL list. Helps a lot. Dianne
ReplyDeleteArt is very smart and since we pay for the answering machine, I like to let it do the work. If a call comes in at dinner time, we know it isn't anyone we want to talk to anyway. Those are always telemarketers or poll takers.
ReplyDeleteWhen David calls me on his cell phone, the caller ID on my landline states Unknown caller. I always answer the phone because I know it could be my husband.
ReplyDeleteKay, you and my husband are two peas in a pod. He will go to any length to track down those kind of calls. They drive him crazy, and he drives me crazy. I read recently that the no call registration is not as helpful these days. Not that it's not working as well as it ever did, it just be overwhelmed with the number of requests it gets these days. Apparently there's been no money to update it and it can no longer handle the load.
ReplyDeleteART is correct in my mind! I've been ignoring 800 calls every day after answering one and being told by a robot to wait on line for a person!
ReplyDeleteBet it's election surveys. . . . Anyone important will leave a message. . . . .
Thanks for YOUr sweet visit, Kay

I just got a call from 231-224-2031 five minutes ago. I didn't answer it because it didn't ring a bell--ha, get it? Then I Googled the number and there were all sorts of complaints about it. My instinct was correct. This happens to me all the time and it's geting to be a real nuisance. I don't answer at least half my calls and some people are mad at me as a result.
ReplyDeleteIt is really irritating to receive several calls from an unknown number. Whenever I experience such calls, I just turned off my phone because it really pissed me off. Good thing that ReverseCellPhoneLookupUSA.com can be so useful in tracking those unknown numbers. I hope that it can help you a lot.
