The Best Birthday Present

Art and I don't exchange birthday presents.  We celebrate our special days by going out to a restaurant and/or buying something frivilous we'd love to have but wouldn't normally buy.  Art's sister and brother-in-law always sends us a generous birthday check so we like to spend it on something special.  Granted, sometimes I'll buy that birthday gift a month or two before before that check arrives.

Art and I have birth dates that are very close together so we've been tempted at times to celebrate them on the same day.  However, that would deprive mom of a night out at a restaurant.

So what birthday gift did I buy this year?

Shoes for Zumba!  Yup!  I saw these Reebok Studio shoes and couldn't resist them.  They really support my feet.  That round disk at the ball of the foot allows you to pivot your feet easily.

But do you know what was the best birthday present of all?

While I was at Zumba and before Art left for his Meals on Wheels volunteering, he cleaned the entire bathroom.  When I came home hot and sticky from the humid Zumba class I could take a shower in a clean bathroom.   I loved it!

Woo hoo!!!

POSTSCRIPT:  Art said I should explain how I took this photo in the dark outside the house and didn't realize there was a moth on my shoe until I saw the photo on the computer.  I didn't step on it.

I'll be writing about my birthday tomorrow.  (Oops!  I meant Monday.  I forgot I wasn't posting on the weekends now.)

  1. WOW They have shoes for every sport and every dance. I've never see the Zumba shoe with the little spinning ball. Happy birthday to you and Art.

    1. They're actually called studio shoes so you can use them for anything you would do in a dance studio.

    1. No, they don't turn, but it makes it a lot easier to pivot and turn which puts less strain on your ankle.

  4. Tomorrow? It's Saturday. I thought you were going to take the weekends off, Kay. I love those shoes and didn't even notice the moth until I looked again. :-)

  7. I love your shoes Kay! Great idea about birthday gifts, just getting stuff you really want. But you know there are some people I wouldn't give gift cards to, because they would forget about them. I use all my gift cards.

    1. That is a problem with gift cards. I guess that's why my sister-in-law sends checks.

    1. Art does the bills too, I'm afraid. I should learn how to do that, but he's got his own system.

  11. Wow, that was really neat of Art. He really does the nicest things.
Sure am glad you explained the moth. I was afraid you had stepped in something. Those are really good looking shoes. Could they be walking shoes also? Think I will check the Reebok site. They are the only shoes I can wear.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAY. Enjoy that dinner out.

    1. Thank you, Patti. I did wear them when I was walking down the street to the class and they felt just fine. I would want to save them primarily for zumba though. One of the other ladies showed me how her shoes had worn out after a year of zumba. And hers were much more expensive than mine. My new shoes cost less than $50.

  12. Wouldn't work for me. She wouldn't let me retire until I promised to clean the bathrooms forevermore. I'll have to think of some other spectacular stunt to keep up with Art.

  14. Late, late thought totally out of rhythm with the discussion: One way to solve the problem of expensive frames for your pictures would to get Art interested in making some frames with his craftsmanship skills. They would even make great presents.

    1. Believe me, Art was trying to figure out a way to do it. However, we would need the UV protecting glass and the matting would be a problem. Sigh... He also doesn't have a ton of time because he STILL needs to finish all the baseboards in the newer part of the unfinished house. AND...when he searched out buying a mat cutter the price was about $500! Yikes!

  16. Happy Birthday Kay, and to Art too. I've just celebrated a birthday too, and went to Bath for lunch. We were lucky to have a lovely warm day, so the city was looking its best. I like your shoes, what a good present to get yourself.

  18. Happiest of birthdays to you both.

I love that little moth on your shoe, I wonder if it knew it would be in the spotlight on your blog? Glad you keep each birthday celebration so as to take your sweet Mom out to a nice restaurant! :-)

  20. Hello Kay!! Yes, it is I, returning to the blogging world. Trying desperately to reconnect to old friends and new ones too! Glad you dropped by (hug) Happy birthday to the both of you and WOW on those spiffy looking shoes. What caught my eye was the PINK. Yeh, I love pink! But of course, it has to be the functionality of the shoes that are important but still it's pink! *blush*... I will bookmark you so we don't loose contact. Take care, my friend.

I like your idea about non-birthdays!

  23. We're kind of the same way about birthdays, but now that we have grandkids nearby, we try to have a family event to mark the day. Cool shoes. There are shoes for a;; purposes now-a-days!
