After seven years of working on the renovation of the house, we're now down to the baseboards. It seemed as though seven years ago we were up to the task. However, I'm finding it's not so easy now.
The bottom of the wall looked like the photo on the left for such a long time we've gotten to used to seeing it unfinished. We finished three fourths of the bottom floor this past week and we're very pleased with the effect.
Art's job is to saw and nail in the baseboard molding and quarter rounds. My job is to patch the nail holes with wood putty, caulk the spaces and then paint it.
We're pleased with ourselves, but I was really aching from bending over yesterday. Now there's just the little bit more to finish on the first floor and then we're on to the second floor which will take four times as long.
Ah well... Art says we're retired so there's no rush. Besides, I wonder if anybody will notice.

DeleteI think it makes a huge difference. And, really, do it so that you will notice and enjoy your house and your handiwork. It is kind of silly to do all the little jobs you always meant to do just because it is time to sell. That has happened to me before!

ReplyDeleteLooks great and so professional! Almost makes me want to tackle those quarter round sections that I never finished up from 10 years ago. You're so right how we get used to the unfinished look but the difference you achieved with the completed baseboard and rounds is inspiring.

I made the mistake of stopping when our remodel was almost complete - just 1 more section and 2 corners of quarter rounds. 10 years of getting used to thinking that I will finish it up one of these days. After you are done, treat yourself to something wonderful because you will have deserved it!
