Mom has always enjoyed her orchid plants but they've been getting hard to manage since it's difficult for her to repot them. She's therefore stopped fertilizing them.
Recently mom was very surprised to suddenly see them all blooming. She cut one and brought it in.
She displayed it on the kitchen table.
I told her she should leave the others out so that they would live longer for her to enjoy.
She was dubious.
Sigh... Apparently the blooms were too heavy for the plant and since we hadn't staked them, snapped and fell. Mom added them to vases and brought them in.
She didn't exactly say, "I told you so," but I could tell she was itching to say it.
We've staked the last orchid spike and hope the wind doesn't knock it about. If this one breaks, I imagine mom won't hold back with the "I told yous."

ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Funny how orchids seem to respond to benign neglect! I imagine your climate is perfect for them. Mine do well, but look no where near as lush as your mom's. Of course, our weather is a 'bit' different here. :)

ReplyDeleteOrchids are very attractive. We have some native wild ones that are small. Our yellow lady slipper is the largest one in the wild.
