While we were in Maryland, we stopped at a mall and saw a Popeye's at the food court. What a surprise! There were only three people in line. In fact, we saw quite a few Popeye's in Maryland where there were no long lines of people or cars desperately trying to get a taste of the wildly popular chicken sandwich.
OK. Despite the fact that I've lost some of my ability to taste and Art doesn't like fried foods, we stood in line to try the spicy chicken sandwich.
Ummmm...
It was good. The breading around that rather large chunk of chicken was very crispy and a little spicy.
In fact, my daughter Tiffany and family tried the Popeye's chicken sandwich and said they preferred Chick-fil-A or Shake Shack.
When we returned to Hawaii, I was able to try the sandwich one more time.
Art warned that it was not good for my blood sugar levels. I know. I know.
I couldn't finish the whole sandwich and I guess I won't order it again.
There's been so much publicity about it that I'm afraid I expected too much.
In fact, I think that if I was going to eat what I shouldn't, I would just get the (gasp!) fried chicken. But don't tell Art.
POSTSCRIPT:
A few days later, we did get to taste Shake Shack's chicken sandwich.
It was just as huge as Popeye's chicken sandwich and quite tasty, but not spicy.
So in the end.... well....
I don't know.

Haven't tried it. I'm not big on chicken sandwiches. I prefer the grilled nuggets from Chik-Fil-A and the chicken noodle soup.

ReplyDeleteI hope this is just for research purposes. That kind of food isn't good for anybody! I'm not a fan of fried chicken, anyway. Once upon a time, maybe. But not at 77. :-)
ReplyDeleteHaven't tried it. But we'll be on the lookout during our upcoming trip. We like KFC and Chick-fil-a, so can Popeye's be far behind? (I know, I know, it's not good for us, but every once in a while won't kill us, will it?)

ReplyDeleteI have both Popeye's and Chick-fil-A near to my home. I tried Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich rather than the standard option about 2 months ago and thought it was very good and I would buy again. I still want to try the Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich and will get the spicy version when I do try it. I think Popeye's marketing of their chicken sandwich benefits both Popeye's and Chick-fil-A.

ReplyDeleteWhere was the Shake Shack you went to? The picture doesn't look like Hawaii - BUT it might be on a cold day when we bundle up with boots and coats. I do hope it isn't Hawaii because it looks so metropolitan with all buildings and no trees.
