Bras Might Cause Breasts to Sag.... Seriously???

You've got to be kidding me!  Now there's a French study saying that wearing a bra might make you more apt to have a sagging chest?  What the heck?

Our cousin, Renee showed me an article suggesting that wearing a bra would do just that.  I looked it up on line and found this website about the French research.

For many years we've all seen the photos in National Geographic and elsewhere showing tribal women with sagging breasts.  I wonder if it's because by having supports, chest muscles are not strengthened to carry the weight.

Whatever the case, the research is not conclusive.  They need a bigger sample of the population.  They also only tested women between the ages of 18-35 and did not represent a global population.

Would I stop wearing a bra?  No way!  However as I wrote earlier,  I did give up the underwire.  But that's as far as I'll go.

  1. I think the culprit is actually TIME and AGE. What will they come up with next? :-)

  3. I think you can find a research study that 'supports' any position you want to take :-)

(Sorry about the pun. It just came out)

  5. I gave up wearing bras in the 1960's, but when my breasts lowered themselves near my waistline, I began again.

  6. I think it has as much to do with genetics, age, weight gain or loss, breast feeding, surgery, as it does with wearing bras.

  7. My joke is always that my bra size has changed from a 36 B to a 36 long....who knew I never should have been wearing a bra in the first place.

  8. Really??? Bras cause sagging?? In 18 to 35 year olds? have the researchers heard of gravity, I wonder?

  9. What a waste of money. I still think large breasts are more trouble. Dianne

  10. I deleted comment because of a misspelling. Anyway, I think gravity plays a role here.

  11. The French just needed a study to validate their wishes....too many variables.

I don't know where my husband read that too but every now and then he jokes that I should go braless because of the study. No way!! He says it looks so uncomfortable plus I wear a bra to sleep. After all these years, it's a habit that's hard to unlearn.

  12. Gravity wins.
Bras are mean. Evidence: a young lady's rose tattoo on her chest becomes a long-stem rose.

  13. Since I have gotten older, I only wear one when I go out the door. Haven't noticed any improvement from not wearing one. I think that is a flawed study. Those natives in NG don't look one bit better.

  14. some research studies are purely idiotic.

  15. This is just funny! Gravity wins with or without a bra. That's why we wear them, because breasts sag, and bounce.

  16. This is the issue with a study that doesn't have reliability. I've learned to check them out. Neither does it seem to have construct validity! I don't wear a bra to prevent sagging. I wear one whenever I ride the lawn tractor!

  17. Remember the 60s and the bra burnings? The joke then was that the Reform Jews might remove from the prayerbook the attribute of God as one who "supportest the falling."
