I wrote yesterday about the repair work we had to do on our LifeProof cellphone cover. My daughter just told me that hers broke too! Sheesh! She's not buying another one.
Kathy G mentioned that I should try writing the company. When I looked up LifeProof online, I found that they only had a 365 day warranty (if you registered). I decided to check whether we had the paperwork on LifeProof in our warranty file. Well.... the warranty file is in Art's file cabinet which was ummmmm....not quite perfectly organized.
I spent an hour sorting, labeling, making files and putting them all in a separate file box instead.
While doing that I found an extended warranty that we'd bought for our Maytag dryer that broke about 5 months ago. The dryer won't stop when we open the door or even when the cycle ends. I have to unplug it to make it stop. I can't believe we were still under the 4 year warranty period. Woo hoo!
They're coming next week to fix it. Good grief! We were going to buy another dryer instead of paying what we figured would be too expensive a repair job.
Most of the time it doesn't pay to buy these extended warranties, but I'm sure glad we got it this time. To think I wouldn't have found the warranty if Kathy G hadn't mentioned writing to the company and if LifeProof didn't get me upset in the first place.
And that's not all. When I was looking into the warranty file I ALSO found a Lifetime Warranty for Emeril cookware. I'd been unhappy with the pits that formed in the pots with rust coming through. I just wrote to them too.
We'll see what happens!

That's wonderful news, Kay! I look forward to hearing what happens with the cookware. Maytag has a very good reputation for fixing things that break. :-)
ReplyDeleteHmm? It seems like a product called LifeProof should have more than a 365 day warranty. It is great that you are going to get your dryer fixed.
ReplyDeleteWell, they say everything happens for a reason. Who would have thought that a broken phone cover would lead to a clothes dryer repair! Not to mention the organization project. Me, I'd still be firmly Krazy glued to the cell phone, probably with both hands.
ReplyDeletegood news and a great post to keep us on our toes!!!We should be more diligent with our warranties, we save them all, we do get some extended warranties and Garry is really good at checking but sometimes one does forget, thats wonderful news about the dryer, whoo hoo! I hope they replace or reimburse your cookware also!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome :-) Sounds like you hit the warranty jackpot.
ReplyDeleteI have a saute pan I bought at a Pampered Chef party years ago. The handle is getting quite loose and some of the non-stick surface is coming off It has e a lifetime guarantee, but I think I tossed the paperwork last time I purged the warranty file.
I think you should still send them an email. I sent Emeril a photo of the rust pit.
DeleteYou are so wonderful with your organizational skills. Bravo. I "think" all our warranties are jammed in one folder down in the files behind the truck. Knock on wood.
ReplyDeleteKay I just know I need you to come and organize my files, I'm like Art. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteMaybe LifeProof didn't expect YOU to survive past 365 days:(
ReplyDeleteI am a believer in knowing all my waranty end dates and keep a list of all our products covered under warranty including the doubling period up to one additional year with credit card (I jot the item down on my WARRANTY list as soon as I jot my credit card purchase on my EXPENSE list). My warranty paper file is a mess...just stacked in a heap and needs a file box like the one you've created.

You are so organized!!! I should start a warranty list too. Such a great idea! Thanks!
DeleteAny chance the warranty for our hot water heater somehow ended up in your file! It just overflowed. Congrats on your finds; it's nice to get a few little bonuses now and then.
ReplyDeleteOuch! Sorry about that water heater. No fun!
DeleteWell, gee, I am thinking I am very happy that Kathy G. left you that comment! We get by with a little help from our friends, don't you know! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love blogging so much!
DeleteSee what organization does for you? I'm impressed. I need to get organized.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are able to put that "lonely Maytag repairman" to work. See, that phone case destructing was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, putting all those warranties to work. Terry is the keeper of the warranties around here. Usually, though, the item quits working long after the warranty has expired.
ReplyDeleteIf you like your dryer, I would highly recommend getting it fixed. The new ones aren't as good or if they are, they are more expensive. I had my washing machine fixed b/c I discovered a new one, to replace what I had, would be over $1000 for the same features. No thanks. $300 for a new motor did the trick.
sounds like you've had a warranty angel watching over you lately. so glad you were able to find the warranties so you can have your things repaired. we recently had to repair our air conditioning unit. wasn't to bad though.
ReplyDeletei'm sorry you had so much trouble with your cell phone cover. but, maybe sending a letter out to the company will help.
i have to say i love that shower curtain. it's perfect from color to its design. i'm glad you've adjusted to the new look and that you both agreed on the curtain. have a great night~
what an organized homemaker!!1
ReplyDeleteYes, I stated clearly in an email that I was unhappy with something at First Hawaiian bank. they got back to me and fixed it.
ReplyDeleteCostco, particularly if you use your AMEX/Costco card, extends your warranties and has concierge service (online too) to help with registrations. Goodbye paper

Keeping on top of things like this is a full time job, one you are very good at!
ReplyDeleteYou can probably tell I'm catching up on blog reading and commenting.
ReplyDeleteI guess "lifeproof" only works if you expect a short life, like upgrading your phone every year like some people do.
The only extended warranties I buy are on my sewing machine and serger. It's about $100 a year for each, but they are supposed to be serviced every year anyway, and they are so easy to break or mess up. It has definitely been worth it to take a machine in and say " I think I broke it", and have it all fixed up at no additional cost.
It's such a sad thing that they cannot make things to last. I understand the technology changes, and I am happy to pass my old equipment on, but there is no reason it should fall apart!
