I got sick when I went to the mainland last fall. I recovered from the October cold in Chicago and then caught another one in Pennsylvania just before returning to Hawaii. I returned on November 3rd. November 3rd!!! How long ago was that? Good grief! It took me over a week back in Hawaii to be totally out of bed and moving around.
Unfortunately, the symptoms would not go away.
I went to see my nurse practitioner in December and she prescribed Claritin because I had/have this horrible post nasal drip type thing that has me clearing my throat constantly with bouts of coughing.
It's terribly annoying and the Claritin did not work.
Kathy then switched me to Allegra.
Nope.
I'm still clearing my throat constantly with the occasional cough.
Although I was exhausted all of November and most of December, I'm now back to Zumba and feeling like my energy level is getting back to normal.
I talked to my Zumba friends and several have told me they also have that post nasal drip problem, but nothing like my throat clearing symptoms.
However, Kathy says my throat is not red and my lungs are clear.
Art signed us up for the Great Aloha Run (Walk) on February 15th. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be 100% by then.

Me, too! I hope you will be well long before then. I have tried all those things for allergies, but the one thing that works is FloNase. You might try it. :-)
ReplyDeletei had the same thing in Nov/Dec. I attributed it to croup. It was awful. I'm glad you are back Zumbaing!
ReplyDeleteonward, there's always some challenge to meet in our lives!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have the energy to begin exercising again. I truly understand.
ReplyDeleteBummer. I hope you get back to normal soon, dear Kay.
ReplyDeleteThat's a long siege of sickness. Hope it clears up and you are fit as a fiddle for your running event.
ReplyDeleteI had luck with Tussionex in getting rid of the post nasal drip. I think it suppressed the cough reflex long enough for the tissues to shrink and stop making so much mucus. I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be fine by then. It sounds like it was a horrible virus still lingering on.
ReplyDeleteHave you looked into why it takes you so long to recover? These things seem to jump on you with some frequency and hang on for long periods of time. Perhaps you need to be treating from the other end, to build your resistance to catching these infections. Perhaps your immune system needs a boost.
ReplyDeleteZyrtec in the morning, nasal spray at night with a Benadryl, works for me.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find a solution. Sick stinks!
ReplyDeleteI have lived with PND for years and sound like Felix Unger in the mornings. Quercetin helps a lot and has no side effects but is short term. Hope you find what works for you.
ReplyDeleteI know the nasal drip and throat clearing. It's a pain. I hope you recover quickly.
ReplyDeletePoor girl! Almost sounds as if your nose, throat and head zones are trying to clear out something. Taking things that stop the nasal drip is akin to taking cough suppressants. It treats the symptoms but not the cause. In fact, sometimes it makes it worse because of how it masks and/or dries thing up, but not out.
ReplyDeleteGoogle search your symptoms and pass through all the drug recommendations until you find other methods - old fashioned ones, new age ones. If it was me I would do a cleansing and perhaps a healthy fasting. Sometimes things in your house need to be cleared or cleaned out too. You have too many people who appreciate you so please get well and stay healthy!
My two cents is that sleeping on my left side helps. I have no idea why--magical thinking perhaps!
ReplyDeletethat stinks, I hope you feel better
ReplyDeleteI've had the same problems for as long as I can remember but they were sloved finally by
ReplyDeletewarming my neck, wearing a scarf 24/7 even in the summer. You might as well try .
So sorry! :(
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a cold since I gave up 90% of all grains. I've heard that is very common. Anyhow, glad you are getting your energy back finally!
I really don't get colds anymore, since I quit teaching, but I do get sinus conditions that have my head feeling pressurized and aching.
ReplyDeleteI almost never get sick since I stopped teaching too. However, it's interesting that I got sick when I got exposed to my sick granddaughter in Chicago and then sick again when I got exposed to my sick grandson in PA. I need to build my resistance again.
Deletei had that same thing during the holidays. i had the cough thing so bad that sometimes i would choke. it hung on for over 6 weeks. and i hardly ever get sick!
