Since We Didn't Win the Powerball

OK, so we didn't win the Powerball.

We're back to looking for good deals.

We were at Wendy's on Tuesday. We like Wendy's Asian Cashew Chicken Salad and the free senior drink. I used to have a Frosty tag (they sold out of 2016's tags) so that I could get a small Frosty free all year.

Well, we were in such a long line at Wendy's that we gave up and decided to go across the street to McDonalds because the Wendy's restaurant was completely full with no place to sit. Amazing!

At McDonald's, I didn't know what to order and then saw this menu on the counter .

$2 for two of either a McChicken, McDouble, French Fries, or Mozzarella Sticks.

Art has needed to gain weight so he ordered the McChicken and McDouble. I ordered the McChicken and fries. I know. I know I shouldn't have fries. Sigh...

Anyway...

Senior drinks are not free like they are at Wendy's, but it was still just 85 cents.

Our total bill was $5.97.

Unfortunately...

It didn't taste very good. The chicken sandwiches were pretty tasteless. Art's McDouble was just OK. The fries were soggy and tasted stale.

The other surprising thing was that McDonalds restaurant was very empty. I have a feeling they need to add some healthier fare to their menu so they can entice some customers away from Wendy's. Maybe they should have a Soft Serve tag. Maybe they should offer free senior drinks. Maybe they should offer better salads.

I wonder when Wendy's will get their next shipment of 2016 Frosty tags...

  1. I don't eat at fast food places at all, but once while traveling a long time ago I ate breakfast at a McDonald's. It was then I said "never again." I suppose if you only do it once in awhile, McDonald's can be an OK place to eat. :-)

  2. I agree. I stay as far away from fast Food as possible. Their products are loaded with salt, high fructose corn syrup, sugar and calories. I just cook at home or occasionally go to a restaurant...but never fast food. Just look at how obese Americans are. And many never cook a meal.

  3. I read in the business news that business ain't great at McDonalds.

  4. our local mcdonalds has new options where you build your hamburger how you like it. we went out to pizza last night but I had a salad too...lol!

  5. Our McDonald's franchises are so poorly run as to be hopeless. We eat out at Chick Fil-A when we want fast food, because they are extremely efficient and also very, very polite.

    1. I have never been to Chick Fil-A, but have heard it's supposed to be good. I'll have to keep my eyes open for it next time we're on the mainland.

  6. Not a fan of McDonalds. We have Whataburger in Texas, and their food is pretty good. I'd rather go to a restaurant and pay a few more dollars for food that has taste. Good luck on your Frosty.

  7. You are indeed brave souls to eat at fast food places.

  8. Not a McFan here either. REally not a Wendy's fan. We do eat at Jaque in the Box on occasion.

  9. I went to MacDonald's a couple of weeks ago after not being there for years. Their menu has changed and the stuff was very good.

  10. Sorry about the power ball thing!

  11. I think it must depend on the particular location. I do know that McDonald's has improved their menu. Our local Wendy's always seemed to have terrible service. We haven't been to either place for a long time, now preferring Subway for a fast food lunch.

    1. I think it very much depends on the location. One of my Zumba buddies today told me that I went to the wrong one and that the one down the street was much better. It must be why cars are lined up there. I can't understand why there are two McDonalds so close together!

  12. Gee, sorry about the Powerball. Better luck next time.
I wish we had all those food deals here like the ones you describe.
In Vienna I ate at McDonalds 3 or 4 times, just to make it quick and easy and cheap and get back to sightseeing fast. It was OK.
Good luck to Art in gaining weight.

  13. Some Mcdonalds suck, some are pretty rad. They give their owners a lot of freedom, so that's kind of why

  14. Too bad about Powerball and also McDonalds.

I like Pandas for inexpensive meals - one plate will feed two. Taco Bell is my favorite and their "sistah" is Pizza Hut - with coupons in the mail for 2 personal pan pizzas for rather cheapo.

Art is so cute - even though the food wasn't very good, he has a happy grin on his face. Fatten him up with bacon (yum, yum, bacon) and avocado on sandwiches, salads, or just plain.

  15. I've heard good things about Wendy's food. Our McD's give good deals and aren't so bad, my mom seems to like McChicken and Filet of Fish.

  16. McD's fries are the best I ever ate but only when they're burn the mouth hot, hot. Which means in take out I am eating the fries while driving. Once warm, like any other fry. Their secret is they are cooked twice - once at the factory and again at the restaurant. I also love their fish burger, no can can compare. But that's about it. My mom eats their $1 cheeseburger for lunch daily, I buy a bunch and she micros them. She's 88 years old, still smokes and weighs 84 lbs. and compared to her peers in pretty good shape. She also loves her potato chips daily and any kind of dessert. Yes, fast food is soooo very bad for you. LOL

  17. I would have guessed that McDonald's and other fast food places, too, were all alike, but I guess not. My grandson was a chicken nugget fan for a long time. I found them to be a strange concoction--only vaguely chicken like. But they did start pushing milk and offering fruit or yogurt sticks. I do tend to be suspicious of all chain restaurants anyway. I have become somewhat of an "organic" snob--somewhat behind the times though, since now "biodynamic" is the rage.

  18. I can't digest fast food. I think it's the cheap cooking oil they use.

  19. Blessings....
It sounds like the staff need to have better food practices, your fries shouldn't be stale if you just ordered it.

  20. Gee, if you had won the lottery you could start your own healthy fast food place and name it Kart's--for Kay and Art. Subway is about the only FF place where I can eat guilt free.

  21. Perhaps the local Mcdonald's franchise owner isn't up to the job? Normally M's fries are the best.

  22. Thanks to you we have our Frosty tags. I didn't know about them or about the free drinks. We now go to Wendy's for our fast food treat.

    1. Lucky you! Our Wendy's still doesn't have more of those Frosty tags for 2016.

  23. Fast food restaurants are a rare treat for me and that is a good thing. Our town has one cafe and one dairy shack drive-in. I will be sad if I go to McDonalds for my occasional Big Mac and it doesn't taste good.

  24. I wonder if they have that chicken salad in Arkansas? If they do I am going to try it!
