One of my Zumba friends mentioned that they always know it's me walking to class because I have my big, floppy hat on. Another friend I met on a tour said they saw a photo from the trip and knew right away that it was me because.... yes, my hat.
In fact, although I joke that Art often collects t-shirts on trips, I have quite a collection of inexpensive hats.
Here's the hat I was wearing at Wat Arun in Thailand.
I bought this hat on Maui and still really like it. It's what I use walking to Zumba.
So why do I wear hats?
It all goes back to a dermatologist in Hawaii who I went to in order to check out some irregular dark mole like shapes I had.
I'd mentioned spots on my face that I wasn't thrilled with.
He lifted my arm and said to look underneath where the sun does not shine on.
"Do you see wrinkles or spots? It's like a baby's bottom, right?" he asked.
Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I saw his point.
Actually, I think a lot of my wrinkles come from the facial expressions I'm told I can't seem to control. I could never be a card player.
So if you see someone walking toward you with a floppy hat on in Hawaii, it's probably me.

I love your hats! And they are a very good idea to protect your face from the sun. The other thing that makes wrinkles other than facial expressions is... time! :-)

DeleteGood idea to wear hats. I tried Zumba yesterday. I got dvds from the library. The leaders are so young and they go so fast. I should find a senior group to join. I imagine they will take it a bit slower. Have yet to decide whether I like the music.

DeleteMy eye doc told me to always wear a hat too. I have cataracts, and keeping the sun out of our eyes helps the progression.
ReplyDeleteWe need to wear hats in Texas, especially in the summer when the sun is so bright, and I always wear sun glasses. Cute hats, and good idea for a collection.

ReplyDeleteYou're smart that you take care of your skin. I was the type, in high school and college, that lay out in the sun on the beach for hours until I burned, and then later blistered. Never listened to Mom, and boy, am I regretting it now. Typical hard-head smart-a-- kid, yeah?

ReplyDeleteYou have some nice hats. I am real careful too, being fair-skinned. When we go hiking I wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. In general, I try to avoid the sun except in the early a.m. and late afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYou are a smart woman. We lived in Texas many years. Our son has already had a malignant skin cancer removed and they've told him there will probably be more because of the years as a child when he was exposed to the hot sun in Texas. I look just awful in a hat. Fortunately you look fetching. Go for it girl, wear those hats.
ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS wear hats - the bigger the better - and they protect me from the sun's damaging rays that seem to target my face with unwelcome dark spots and splotches. Sigh. I have the skin of my mother's mother who had so many dark spots (melasma)that she almost looked like a dalmatian.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see people walking about during the day without any hat for protection, I am almost envious, but then I have come to really like the look of hats and it is now part of my "Aunty" look.
My current favorite is a wrap around topless visor from Target. Keep on hatting!!
Yes! I wore my big plantation hat for 30 years in Hawaii and it paid off in my skin. I'm still wearing hats here in Calif. Sun is still sun after all. I loved your wonderful comments at my blog concerning Mom. We consider these the "lucky years." So glad all is well at your hale.

ReplyDeleteI am always envious of people who can and like to wear hats. Hats bug me and I can't stand to wear them very long. To protect my eyes from sun I wear simple visors with elastic coil bands. Those I can wear for long periods of time.

ReplyDeleteI was shocked when I moved down here to the desert; no one in town wears a hat. They think it's not a cool thing to do. I will stick with my hat no matter what.
My grandkids down in Australia have to wear a broad-brimmed hat as part of their school uniform. Australians are very sun-danger conscious.
Love your floppy hats! And that black and white one? Wish I had that one yesterday, I went to a wedding shower for my niece and we were asked to wear black and white!

I love big floppy hats and I try very hard to wear them but for some reason they block my vision and make me uncomfortable. You look good and you look comfortable in yours.
