My daughter sent me a text photo last week of our 10 year old granddaughter washing dishes. She wrote, "Do you remember when KC wanted so badly to wash dishes, but she was too little?"
Oh my gosh!
Isn't this the little girl we carried?
Wasn't it yesterday when she was small?
Sunrise, sunset, sunrise, sunset..
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze...

Why is it that washing dishes suddenly made her seem so much older? She even looks taller to me.
Why did it make me tear up...
Sigh...
I wonder how I'll react when she starts learning how to drive?
Oh my gosh!

wait till she graduates from high school. as they grow up, we grow older. have to cherish each special stage and time in their lives and ours!

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. 2nd granddaughter, at 9 mo is pulling up to stand and learning to crawl. 1st granddaughter is chattering away with opinions about everything. 3rd granddaughter cousin to the first two is preparing to be born.

ReplyDeleteIt is a bittersweet feeling, how fast time goes by. My mom always used to say life is short now I understand what she meant.
ReplyDeleteI can SO relate. My granddaughter just turned 16 and my first thought was learning to drive...oh, no! And my grandson is 10 (but so far shows no inclination to wash dishes). I look at them and wonder where the time flew off to.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me tear up too. I must remind my daughter today of how her daughter loved to was dishes and now she is 15 and only goes near the kitchen to eat and that's only because they make her come out of her room for meals.

ReplyDeleteI certainly know what you mean. My oldest granddaughter is 38. Her sister is 35. My eldest grandson is 38. My youngest granddaughter is 27 and her brother is 31.
ReplyDeleteMy eldest great is 14. The other two of my grandsons are 4 and 6. I also have a 9 year old great and she has a sister that is 4. I have two more that are 9 and 6. How fast they grow up!
Having grandchildren is what reminds us of how fast time is moving. Kind of scary even though it is also a joy.

ReplyDeleteI'm finding it goes faster with grandchildren. Maybe because when we are in the thick of parenting, we don't know how time goes by. Now we do. It makes me ache.
ReplyDeleteThey grow so quickly, and they are quick to tell you that they are NOT a baby any more and don't need help doing certain tasks. Well, I do know that, but I love doing things for my grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteThey are the reason I stay healthy, so I can run around and do things with them. The day is coming, though, when grandma and grampa will be boring and they will want to do other things besides hang out with us. We are loving every minute we have with them.
