MacCoin Craziness!

In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of McDonald's Big Mac, they were giving out limited edition MacCoins (one design for each decade) with every purchase of a Big Mac in August to collect or redeem for a free Big Mac at a later date.

Ummmm... Art is a notorious collector. He collects rocks, stamps, coins, woodblock prints, etc. So you can imagine that the MacCoin caught his interest. (Let's not discuss my mug collection.)

He didn't want to redeem the coin for a Big Mac. He almost never eats a Big Mac. He just loved the idea of collecting these limited edition coins.

Since he could get a Big Mac for just $1.00 with his McDonalds app, it was even more enticing.

Eventually, he managed to collect 4 of the 5 coins between the two of us before all the McDonalds in the area ran out of them.

Would you believe my son-in-law sold two of his on Ebay for $13 a piece?

Before leaving Illinois I asked Art what he was going to do with the 4 coins anyway except to have them gather dust in Hawaii?

I told him he should just give them to our son-in-law to sell on Ebay.

Art thought hard about it and remembered that our granddaughter, KC had started collecting MacCoins too, but only had two of the decades.

Since Art wanted to give two MacCoins to his sister and another friend, he told KC he would trade her two with his four.

I was astonished to see her eyes well up with tears. She was so touched that her grandpa was willing to give up his collection that she was overcome with emotion.

Ummm.... You do realize we now have another collector in the family.

  5. Can't believe what they are worth on E-bay. Cool that he could make KC so happy which in turn made Art happy. Win/win.

  7. While I'm a bit bewildered at the attraction of the MacCoins, I do love it that Art did his deal with KC. Of course, now he hooked her too.

  8. I love it! She is, as they say, a chip off the old block. :-)

  9. Sweet story. We are a family of comic book collectors, including extended family. The collection is shrinking though. Many got sold for college tuition. A good trade.
