When I broke my arm going up the stairs with my hands full in May, wonderful blogger friends who always have good ideas mentioned stationing a stair basket to hold things. I looked up stair baskets and saw that they run between $30-$40.
When I thought about it, I was concerned that the basket might not be a perfect fit for our stair riser. It also can't stand alone.
So I started looking for a regular basket and found one that was just the perfect size on Amazon.
This basket is just the right size and I can just leave it at the top of the stairs or on a table. The handles make it easy to carry, but had edges that were a little too sharp for me so Art sanded them down. The bottom was also not that sturdy so I added a thick cardboard just to give it a little more support. At $12.87 I wasn't expecting perfection, but this comes close.

Wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteGood that you are making your life safer.
ReplyDeleteFor that price I'd buy a second basket to have on hand!
ReplyDeletewe learn from our experiences. After my fall coming back to bed in the dark, we have night lights throughout the house!
ReplyDeleteWe had a pair of those stair baskets, and truthfully, I found we didn't use them. Wonderful idea tho. Both yoo and the basket look great.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found the perfect basket solution. After I had surgery on my neck, I started carry a hot pink plastic basket and I have continued to do this. I put my mini ipad, phone, lip balm, a notepad, pen and sometimes magazines in mine. It just makes sense and then our hands are free to hold on to the bannister and no accidents! :) Have a great day Kay!
ReplyDeleteYour basket looks very practical and cute. Anything that will keep you from falling is a plus.
ReplyDeleteEven though it is not for you, the stair basket seems like as good idea since random things on stairs are a hazard.
ReplyDeleteI looked up stair baskets and I think yours is a much more usable version. Well done.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! And now you are not allowed to hurt yourself again. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood solution. I have baskets that I can use. I should probably keep one handy at the top and the bottom of the stairs. I do plan my trips up or down so that I can always have one hand free to grip the rail.
ReplyDeleteWow you got steep stairs and a lot of them, yikes! BB
ReplyDeleteWe live in a bungalow! Otherwise, a good plan!
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
