I have just tripped into the New Year with a couple of projects that is taking up so much of my time that many things have fallen by the wayside including my blogging. We did clean and organize the house in preparation for the new year though. That custom is ingrained in us.
The first project was to create a First Year photo book for my new grandson. Then I realized that my granddaughter would be turning 10 years of age in 2016. My daughter loved the idea I proposed to make KC a 10 Year photo book.
You can just imagine how many photos I have of KC in the past 10 years. I'm on 2010 now and the task I set out for myself is rather daunting. I never erased any photos. For every photo I want to include in the book, I've got 50-100 to look through. It's exhausting! I'll also be including a lot of thought and speech bubbles which KC loves.
I have a warning for all avid photographers. Erase your bad photos that you know you won't use in the future. They only take up space on your computer and then you have to sift through a million to find the one you want. Sigh.
And yet... for all the work, I'm imagining that both KC as well as my new grandson will love these books.
That does make me happy.

Since I moved all my pictures to the cloud, I've been going through and deleting some, but I'm still right around 5,000! These picture books are such fun! I know they will be cherished forever. :-)
ReplyDeleteYES! Erase at least 60% if you are a crazy photographer like me. They clutter and prevent you from finding the best ones. I am beginning a project of the same, photo memory books for the grands. the oldest will get the tenth year on his birthday.

ReplyDeleteO do dump many photos but not enough. My bigger project is to scan all the old phots and 35 mm. I haven't really figured out how to do it yet. I'm doing this for my kids who are 44 and 46. have a great 2016.
ReplyDeleteI do try to delete unwanted photos regularly. Not as often as I should, but I try. I've recently discovered Chatbooks. Love the ones I created as Christmas gifts.

ReplyDeleteGrandchildren photos. I am the repository of all my mother and grandfather pictures. what I have done on two hard drives it put them in order by year and content. The first few years, both bad and good shots are all in one folder, but as they get older, the photos gain space and have a folder per year per kid. Per some adults too. Remember I have 14 grandkids. LOL

Happy New Year. I spent yesterday making a photo book of 2015. Yes tons of photos to sort through and even then I had to scale back so I wasn't facing a fortune for the photo book. Shutterfly was offering 50% off expiring yesterday. Then today I get an email they are continuing it. Oh, well I got it done and its off my list.

ReplyDeleteYou are so right about getting rid of photos you are not going to use. I have hundreds of them. It is so time consuming to search for just the right photo when you have so many. Sometimes I look up and I have spent an hour searching through photos. Sad part is, I can't bring myself to get rid of them. I really need to do this though.

ReplyDeleteInterestingly, I have set a goal of cleaning up my photo storage on the hard drive, editing, sorting and re-filing to eliminate folders, and discarding! I have started and got through the first few files. Many, many to go!
I so envy your ability to take on so many projects. Wish I had the inclination because I do have the time. Maybe this year I will get started. Oh wait, I said that last year.

ReplyDeleteLove those photo books, hate making them. I use Shutterfly and it's not very intuitive. As for photos, I took a digital photo course at Stanford University a number of years ago, and the instructor was adamant that you only save a very few photos each day. We could save only 3 each day from our assignment. Oh, it was painful to delete, but he said it was good for us and helped us build a discerning eye. It did. I now help Terry delete his photos as he shoots hundreds of each charitable event.
ReplyDeleteYou are taking on a huge project, but it will be one that will continue to be a treasure as the years pass by. Your advice is good. I have started deleting those extra photos lately. They really are space wasters and time wasters.
