My New Charging Station

I've been using this folding table to hold our water and nuts to snack on for quite a few years. However, I've been looking to replace it with a more stable table that I could also use for charging our electronics unobtrusively.

A flyer from Bed, Bath and Beyond had a bamboo bathroom table that caught my eye.

I liked the fact that it said it had venting slats to keep air flowing. That would keep the chargers cooler if I put it in the top drawer.

The table in the flyer said it was $99.99.

I looked it up on the Bed, Bath and Beyond website and it said the table was $79.99.

I also got online coupons for 20% off as well as in store coupons for 20%. I called ahead to make sure it would be OK to get the online price and use the in store coupon.

Once we got to the store though, the sales associate said I could either use the online price or the 20% off coupon, but not both. I asked if it would be better to just order it on line because shipping is free on orders over $49. She called the manager.  The manager said we could use both the online price and the coupon, but told me that things cost more here in Hawaii because of shipping.

I asked if I should just order it on line and have it shipped to our house. He said it's frustrating for him, but we could just have it since we were already there.

Sigh... I felt rather bad about that. When I've asked about on line prices at Macy's and Target, they did not act as though it was a problem and cheerfully just gave me the online price.

I guess in the future, if there's this kind of discrepancy in prices and there's free shipping, I'll just have it shipped to the house.

OK... I felt bad for a while.

Then we went home and we assembled the table in a very short time. It is just small enough for the space I had.

It's very sturdy and I like how it hides most of the chargers and wires.

OK... I'm happy again.

  1. It looks nice and if it makes you happy, Kay, then I'm happy too.

  2. You should have a job as a professional shopper. You put so much work into making the right purchase and are quite frugal in your efforts. I am a "grab and go" buyer and often spend too much. And what about your recliners and ottomans? I am quite fascinated by them.

    1. I bought those through Craigslist. They are Stressless chairs and we LOVE them! They're quite pricey if you bought them at the store though.

  3. What really impresses me is how you got that together so quickly. Me and assembly required do not get along at all.

  4. Me either, Olga! I am challenged when it comes to assembling anything. I really like the charging station though. Very neat!

  5. nice table...I'm going through the same challenge right now in shopping for an iphone. I get $100 off if I buy it online rather than at the local verizon store then there are used ones for sale, etc. I'm thinking of getting a used 5S rather than a newer $200 more 6S. Hear that the camera and batteries are better in the new one. So many decisions....lol!

    1. When it comes to electronics, always buy the top model available because it's already out of date.

  6. You are quite the haggler. Never would occur to me to argue with the store over the price.

  7. Looks like a very nice table. We were at Bed Bath and Beyond and used a 20% off coupon to buy 24 wine glasses, amounting to $18 plus tax. Good deal compared to Macy's.

  9. I really like how it hides the wires. We are such a wired society that it is nice to have that part hidden. You are a great at persuing a deal.

  12. What's sad is that management doesn't train all staff properly. No trickle-down instructions. You got one answer when you called, took the time to drive there, and got told something different. It's good that the store honored what you were told.

    1. I'm glad they did too, but I felt bad that it seemed I frustrated him.

  13. Charging devices is something I struggle with a lot. I hate all those visible cords. Unlike you I haven't found a solution.

  15. Good deal and good job! Don't you love it when you find the perfect piece of furniture that makes living spaces work even better?
The store manager should have just honored your discount and coupons without a hassle. It is one of the reasons that I usually shop online rather than in stores. Except for Nordstrom Rack. They really have excellent customer service.

  16. I would buy more of that type of thing if I had someone like Art to assemble it! My hubby would consider it a real chore and would be super unhappy about it. So, I make do without such a cool table. :-)

  17. It's so gratifying to find little treasurers like that, then score on the fine print, too.

  18. Hi There, That little table is PERFECT for what you are using it for... Glad they gave you all of the discounts... It looks GREAT.

Check out my recent blog post... You'll see a bit of snow in Tennessee.

  19. I don't like when they do things were you can't "combine" stuff where it's not even a real deal. Sears gave me coupons once and not a single thing I wanted qualified. I hope they were happy when I didn't get a single thing because of it.

  20. Well done! I think I don't have enough things that need charging, but I'm thinking about this table.

  21. Oh what a great idea, Kay. What I wouldn't give to have my devices and gadgets tucked neatly away, especially all those cords and wires. This is giving me ideas. Your new charging station looks absolutely beautiful.
