Last week, Art's friend, Morris told him about the Powerball. We hadn't been paying attention. Apparently the Powerball lottery had gone up to a gazillion million dollars. Morris had his son buy him some tickets. We laughed about it because we knew that you were more likely to be hit by lightning than to win the Powerball.
Still....
What if...
So we asked our son-in-law to buy us a ticket in Illinois.
He did.
He texted us a couple of days later to say we might have won the prize for not getting ANY of the numbers correct.
Ah well...
This reminded me of when our gym teacher at school started up a lottery pool. All the teachers put in $5.00 to get as many chances as they could. I didn't. I knew the chances were too slim. One of the people Art worked with in Chicago won 30 million dollars or whatever. Would you believe her office friends collected money from everyone to throw a congratulatory party for her? She attended the party and was never heard from again.
Anyway, I figured lightning wouldn't strike so close twice. How could we win if we already knew someone else who did?
Then I had this dream that the school lottery pool won and I was the only teacher that showed up for work the next morning.
I put in my $5.00. Nope, all the teachers (and principal) showed up for school the next day.
OK... so nobody won last week's gazillion million Powerball and now it's up to 1.5 billion. Puhleeze...
Oh what the heck! I asked my son-in-law to buy us another ticket. Just one.
If there's no post tomorrow I might have won and went into hiding.

If everyone who didn't match any numbers last week got a prize they'd be handing out a lot of prizes!
ReplyDeleteI saw a picture of people lined up for blocks to buy a ticket. Can you believe it? I'm almost tempted to buy one myself. :-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to win that much money ... just imagine all the terrific things you could do and the power you would have. They did say that the odds were like getting struck by lighting at the exact time you were attacked by a shark...or some such anomaly. My neighbor down the road actually won about 18 million or some such in the lottery about 15 years ago. They seem to be holding it together.
ReplyDeleteI work for the poor who have no food and no jobs, homeless, it is not in my nature to buy lotter tickets when many labor or don't to spend $2.00 to think I could win anything..No thank you I just keep on trucking and feeding the sweet people I do with my own money, I feel rich beyond belief to get good food for little money and take it to the pantry and cook it roast it and bake it no one ever complains and the place fills my soul..as for the Powerball statiics say the person or person who do win have miserable lives no thank you!

DeleteAloha sweet Kay and Art this is mary from Washington state, I am at the food pantry and the food is baking and sizzling and many are speaking about the jackpot, oh, how wonderful it would be to get a slice of that jackpot to continue to feed, roast and bake for these sweet human beings, yes it would be so wonderful but I got a good deal on milk today for only $1.98 I got a gallon of good milk and someone took me to the store and I got enough bread for a good sized dressing for the pork we are baking..oh, my goodness sakes..I would love to go to Hawaii and bike and hike and garden, have a wonderful Asian new year on 2/8/16 year of the Fire Monkey wow whee, we are having an Asian themed meal all week long that week and I am excited to make lots of potstickers and dumplings and wontons toooo I am trying hard to learn how to roll them, pinch them and steam them...Aloha sweet Kay and Art praying you have health, love, luck and prosperity in the new year with great weather and no more car stuff only good times, aloha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteHusband bought some when it was $900 mil. He bought two more for this drawing. Read that they changed the way its run so less chance of winning big. It's crazy. If I won I'd give so much of it away to good causes, family members. and church.

I did buy a losing ticket which suits me fine. I would hate to win the big prize. That was just too much money. My brother said he would never speak to me again if I won and turned his kids into bums:)) He and they are safe.
