It is the Year of the Fire Monkey according to the Chinese lunar year
calendar. Everyone born in 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992,
2004 and 2016 are monkeys in the Chinese Zodiac.
According to the Honolulu Star Advertiser, "This is your year to be in the limelight and shine. It can be a year of fame. There is high energy for power and influence over others. Be sure this influence is toward positive means and goals. Don't forget friends play a significant role in your success."
Each monkey year is also aligned with one of five elements: Gold (Metal), Water, Wood, Fire, or Earth according to the China Highlights website. Art is a wood monkey. How appropriate since he LOVES trees!
The traits of a wood monkey are: "Always ready to help others; compassionate, with strong self-esteem, but stubborn"
Wow! That's him! And his lucky numbers are 4 and 9!
Hey! Maybe I should tell him to play the lottery.
Oh nuts! I just read this in China Highlights also! "2016 is a Monkey year. Monkey years are believed to be unlucky for people born in a year of the Monkey. A year of one's birth sign is believed to be the most unlucky in the 12-year cycle."
OK, never mind the lottery after all.

I am also a wood monkey, born in January of 1945. I never heard about this being an unlucky year for people born under that sign. I am rejecting that idea. I feel it will be and already is a lucky year.
ReplyDeleteMr Him is a monkey. I think we all know that! I'm keeping him away from any risky enterprise
ReplyDeleteI was born during the Year of the Horse, and I remember being told that it would not be a good year for me because of it being unlucky for those born then. However, it turned out to be a good one anyway. That was a couple of years ago. :-)
ReplyDeletebah, balderdash, he's a very lucky man, he found you didn't he lol,,go buy that ticket!!
ReplyDeleteBuy the ticket. :)
ReplyDeleteMy Bob is a monkey born in 1932. Now I just need to train him to do all the jobs around here a trained monkey could do.
ReplyDeleteI'm a earth dragon. Daisy is a tiger
ReplyDeleteI find Asian mythology so conflicting sometimes!!
ReplyDeleteYou mustn't forget that the Chinese year is different from the Western calendar. For example, my birthday is in early January, so my sign is for the preceding year.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right!
Deleteoops my daughter is also a Monkey.
ReplyDeletemy hubby is born in 1944 so he's a monkey too...lol!
ReplyDeleteI am confused. Are you saying 2016 is lucky for everyone who is NOT a monkey but unlucky for those born in the year of the monkey? Does it say 2016 will be confusing?
ReplyDeleteYup. That's what this one website said. I'm going to assume it's going to be a good year for Art because he's already happily planning some trips for us and our daughter and her family will be visiting us this summer.
DeleteInteresting. Think I will go check what our political candidates are. I'm a rabbit so this should be a good year.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to be a Gemini as opposed to a rat!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great to have two of you.
DeleteI find this quite interesting. How does Art feel about being identified as a monkey. ;)
ReplyDeleteHe rather prefers it to the ox that I am. :-)
DeleteI'm a monkey too. But I'm confused. Am I having a good year or a bad year? :-/
ReplyDeleteIf you go by the China Highlights website... ummmm... Not so good, I guess, but there are lots of varying opinions.
Deleteinteresting zodiac
ReplyDeleteYou forgot it is the year of the Fire Monkey and I think 1944 when your husband was born was the year of the fire monkey, no got I got it wrong 1956 is the Fire Monkey..Monkey signs are luckier and smarter than most they figure out each problem cerebrally and don't get upset or confused, happy a nd smiling most of the time, my best friends are all Monkey in 1956 and can figure out anything and are sweet, kind and loving a trait I think goes a long long way and such manners..aloha and enjoy the new year! from mary in the 'couv we had a temp of over 71 at the beach yesterday sunny and lovely we don't get many of those so we walked a long ways and ate a nice fish feast, chowder in a bread bowl, shrimp salad and some steamed mussels, yummmmmmeee our Valentine's day out..It has broken heat records here and it is to rain soon but stil now at 57 degrees but it is not raining, aloha and happy sweet valentines day to you and yours..
ReplyDeleteWood Monkey here as well, born in 1944. I learned my monkey status some years ago and though I've never been particularly thrilled about it, I've accepted it is what it is. I combine the 4 and 9 into 13 and use as my mega number. So far, no wins but hope springs eternal.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! That's Art's favorite number too.
