One of our favorite places to visit in Illinois is the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Tiffany loves to take KC there whenever she can.
Children are given an activity nature "BINGO" sheet where they attach stickers every time they find something that is listed such as fruits, seeds, squirrels, etc.
The chrysanthemums were in full bloom.
I don't know what it is about water lilies that always draws my camera.
There were so many things KC wanted to see.
These bushes seemed to be on fire.
KC insisted on getting a map of the gardens and asked her grandpa to show her where we were throughout our walk.
The maple trees were spectacular in the sunlight. The weather was crisp and perfect.
And here's a butterfly we don't see in Hawaii.
The Sensory Garden had lots of smells and textures to experience.
We had a rather uninspired lunch at the garden cafe and then went out again to explore more of the garden.
The English Walled Garden is one of our favorite places to spend a quiet time. Some tea and scones would have been perfect here.
We were texting Tiffany as we entered the Japanese Gardens. She warned us that we'd been out for such a long time that KC might get too tired to walk. If this happens, somebody might have to carry her.
We turned right around, walked through the rose garden and headed straight for the parking lot.
It was a perfect day!

Wow, KC is a map-reader and knows where she is?? Kay, are you sure this is your granddaughter? LOL
ReplyDeleteI know....... She takes after Art more than me, that's for sure.
DeleteThat last photo would make a great wall sized picture. I love it.
ReplyDeletesuch a beautiful place, I think its wonderful KC is interested in following maps, she's young to have such interests, clever little girl. I don't blame you for heading our, our Grand children are too heavy too carry!!!!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I bet KC never runs out of energy while with her grandparents! The Okla. City science place has a plant that folds up it's little leaves when touched! Really cool place in Chicago! Drummajor
ReplyDeleteI believe that is the Sensitiva plant which grow like weeds in Hawaii?
DeleteKC is such a smart little girl. I didn't understand maps for a long time, but she does. Those mums are spectacular, Kay. It was indeed a perfect day. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is surprising to me that she has such a fascination for maps and directions of any sort.
DeleteWhat a difference a few weeks makes-I'm sure if you went to the Botanical Garden now it would look much different. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt looks perfect for kids and adults...fun times! Love your water lily photo!
ReplyDeleteBlessings....

A perfect day indeed! KC is so smart.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a beautiful garden! I have yet to visit Chicago, but now I know one place that would be on my list for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love it when little kids are curious and want to know all about everything.
Beautiful photography!
ReplyDeleteA perfect day indeed. We had one of those when I was in CA to visit my son and his family. I was wondering as I watched this if the CBG had a children's garden.
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to visit my cousin Susie in the near future so she and I can take a trip to the Botanic Gardens. I love them. Dianne
They used to have a little train exhibit for children. I don't know if they have them now. They do have special classes for children but I don't think they have an area that's geared only for children.
Deletelovely perambulating with you folks!
ReplyDeleteAloha from Honolulu

Thanks for sharing your visit to Chicago with us. Lovely post, and your granddaughter seems to have grown taller and smarter for sure. Not the toddler she once was.
ReplyDeleteL...w
She's definitely not a toddler anymore.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place. No wonder you like to go back when you can.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your trip to Chicago :)
I love this botanical garden! And that English one really does look English!
ReplyDeleteThose mum beds are spectacular! So funny you got out of there at the thought of having to carry around a little one, you do make me laugh! :-)
Oh my! She is not so little anymore and carrying her for that distance would have killed our backs.
DeleteAs I was the person in charge of the construction of the Chicago Botanic Garden, I am very pleased to see it's success.
ReplyDeleteWow! Thank you for your message. We always make a trip to the garden when we're back in Illinois and my daughter and family have a membership there. We love everything about that beautiful, serene place.
