Transforming T-Shirts to Blouses

I'm not a big fan of t-shirts these days.  I get hot quickly and the tighter crew necks bother me.

I also don't love the boxy look with the too long short sleeves.

This was Art's souvenir t-shirt from Petra, Jordan.  It's actually very tight at the neck, arm hole and hip.

I decided to try cutting off the sleeves and making it into a sleeveless blouse.  I could do this since the holes were tight to start with.

I also cut off the crew neck and slit the slides to make it more comfortable.

Feeling pretty pleased with the effect, I decided to modify another t-shirt.  I just cut the crew neck off and sewed it under.  I also shortened the sleeves.

And here's my last t-shirt blouse.  This was the t-shirt Art got free from North Face in Chicago.  It was much too tight for him after it got washed and shrunk.

I cut the crew neck off and also shortened the sleeves.

Yup...

Not bad...

I'm looking into my drawers for other t-shirts now.

Art is keeping me away from his closet!

  1. Kay, you are toooo funny (and uber-talented). Maybe I should send you some of my t-shirts to be modified. The changes you made give the shirts a more feminine appeal. BTW, we returned from Japan 2 weeks ago, and already I'm thinking of our next trip there!

  3. such great make overs and one good thing about tee shirt fabric is it doesn't not fray!Sometimes we don't even have to hem!

  4. I was impressed with your last tee shirt make overs with the pulled elastic. This looks even easier and quite smart. I'll have to look for some with small arm holes. You are so clever.

  5. Those are very cute and clever. One have my daughters has been making very cute scarves from ols T-shirts. She cuts then in narrow strips across that kind of roll up and then holds the strips together in one spot. The whole thing slips over your head and makes a very cute scarf. I didn't explain it too well, but they really are cute.

  6. Wow! Those look dandy! Of course, anything looks dandy on your lovely frame. You could arm wrestle with Michelle Obama! I'll send you lots of my t-shirts. I always wished I could turn them into V-necks. My baggy Hawaii ones are for sleeping, but I keep waking up in Kansas. DrumMajor

  7. I think Art should be worried. What is the definition of "too tight?" Dianne

  9. What a good idea Kay, they look really wearable. I've never been a fan of t-shirts, preferring shirts and blouses, but I expect t-shirts are more useful in your climate. Here in the UK i need blouses with long sleeves that I can roll up when it gets warm and down again when it gets cooler;

  12. Several years ago I took apart an XL-sized shirt and remade it into my size. It was a big project. Yours looks much easier.

  13. Good for you, you crafty woman! I'm busy looking for long sleeves these days, though. Pretty cold with ice on the goldfish pond.
    I love the change, though.

  15. Thanks for the ideas....men's Tshirts are not the most flattering. I bought lots of ill fitted cheap shirts from Sears over the years ((crates of them)) so I may alter them one day. I too love the challenge.

    1. Glad I bought them years ago since the quality of cotton these days is very poor.
