Good grief! I'm in pain!
It started on Sunday morning. I got up with pain that started at the base of my neck down the sides of spine to my shoulder blades. I don't know what could have caused it. I can sit and stand perfectly fine, but when I have to get up from a lying down position it hurts like the dickens. Rolling over is a major accomplishment too!
I've taken Motrin (with food, of course), used a heating pad and resorted to... yes... yes... I know. I'm turning into my mother... Salonpas (medicated plaster). It doesn't cure it, but it does give it some relief.
This is the first time back pain has lasted this long.
Aggravation!

Oi, pain, not good. How about a good massage?
ReplyDeleteThey say that that is the spot where all tension resides.
Feel better soon, dear Kay.
Art did try massaging until his own fingers hurt, but it didn't quite do it. Sigh... It is a bit... tiny bit better today though.
DeleteOh, poor you! Hope it eases up soon.
ReplyDeleteI get those every now and then and usually for no reason I can discern. I'm sorry to hear you are in such pain. Please get better soon! The aches and pains of life come to us all, though. :-(
ReplyDeleteDoes your insurance offer chiropractic care? I'm betting that would help a lot.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. It's military so it's iffy.
Deleteoh Kay, sorry to hear this, hope it gets feeling better soon.I have a sore back right now too, the middle of my back , but just for the morning!!! Such a pain in the you know where!!
ReplyDeleteI hear you sister. I think its hovering over these slides for hours at a time. Glad I am not obsessive about this project. Dianne
ReplyDeleteAnd yes...it's true. I am obsessive! I so want to get this done. Arrrghhh!
DeleteSo sorry. Pulled something. With me I can comb my hair the wrong way and the neck will go for a few days. Hope it gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteHope it is not anything serious. Get medical attention if this persists (more than a sprained muscle). For about 10 years I complained off and on to our primary physician at Kaiser about weird pain sensations (and numbness) on my left side. Lo and behold the doc finally took me serious (perhaps with better communication having my husband at my side), I finally got an xray and they found a condition I should have addressed 10 years ago. Now with PT, I hope I can postpone back surgery but my chances were better had I gone PT years ago and not gone on treadmill several times a week for the past 5 years, which was too hard for my back. Now I'm on exercise bike which is a lot better.

It is a little better today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm on the upswing. I hope.
DeleteKay -- (it's contagious, because I woke up with neck pain.) You've done lots right and I hope it subsides. Don't exceed the 24-hour amount listed on the Motrin. I like Aleve/naproxen too but they're similar. If it still hurts in a day, call that wonderful NP for the next step, maybe a Friday appointment. Most injuries are from repetitive actions, so the massive slides/photo scanning may have caught up with you. If it gets worse, or hurts more, for sure call and be seen. Wishing you a speedy recovery. DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteI was actually able to do without the Motrin today, but it was a bit painful at Tai chi class today.
DeleteIt sounds like you have really irritated something in your back. I hope it gets better soon. I agree that a good massage might help.
ReplyDeleteKay: it sounds like you have a tension headache. I used to have those when I sat at the computer all day. Maybe you should vary your activities during the day instead of scanning so much. Just a suggestion. If I were you, I'd make an appointment with a doctor. Take care of yourself! There's just one of you.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon, Kay..So sorry to hear about your pain..take some proper rest..
ReplyDeleteoh dear...hope you can find out what it is.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you are working too much at your computer? Try a chiropractor-I always get relief there...
ReplyDeleteNot on Saturday. I was working on the party so I wasn't at the computer very much.
DeleteDid you spend your day scanning. Does it to me every time. Take a break and go outside. :)
ReplyDeleteActually, that was the day of the big party. I wasn't lifting anything though.
DeleteYep time for the chiropractor.......couple of good pops and you'll be good as new!
ReplyDeleteGosh! I've never been to a chiropractor.
DeleteI went to a chiropractor once and once only for a backache when I was in college. Nothing happened. I told my family doctor and he looked at me pityingly and said, "Heennnrry," in a way that spoke volumes. I never went again. Their theory seems anti-scientific to me.
DeleteI had a student once who had really serious, incapacitating carpal tunnel syndrome from working at the computer all day. Obviuosly you don't have carpal tunnel syndrome, but it does seem that lengthy computerizing, to coin a word in a different context, can have ill effects on the body.
ReplyDeleteCan a fellow sufferer say AMEN?
ReplyDeleteJust do what you can to get through it - it ALWAYS goes away!
Hope you feel better very soon, dear Kay

I am thinking that it should be checked out..Women can have symptoms that are different from a man and there can be referred pain that isn't coming from where you think it is..Just to be safe...Michelle
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michelle. You should go to a doctor. Heart problems present in women much differently than in men. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteKay - I'd check with your lovely NP for what she thinks. Good chiropractors are good, and if she thinks it will help, she'll know a good and proper one. (I think the military benefits DO have a chiropractic benefit to some degree,) Kind of like "western" medicine isn't the only medicine in the world....chiropractic, acupuncture, and other alternative medicines can't be all wrong. Maybe just a paid massuse would help. Good Luck, DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteOh what a nuisance for you. It does rather sound as if you have been standing awkwardly for too long, perhaps overdoing your slide work. I'd recommend seeing a good masseuse, I have a massage every two weeks and it does wonders for my back, neck and shoulders. And I'm also highly in favour of seeing a chiropractor if it goes on for too long. Having a bad neck can have so many other knock on effects. I do hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteare you ready for another idea, becuz I can fix, guarantee, lol. Your body is getting 'lopsided' maybe from all the scanning, etc. Prolonged or repeated position does this. When I had balpalsy the left side muscle gave way and the right side muscle became too strong and there was electricty pain. In this situation, your back muscles are getting too strong and your chest muscles (pectorals, major or minor) are getting weak. Without the pecks (front muscles) to pull against the now dominant back muscles over pull and at some point the non-normal action yank at your spine and irritate the nerve endings. Think of it like a rubber band being pulled from two ends. The back muscles at one end and the front pecks from the opposite end of the ying & yang. Thusly, no matter how much you massage the back muscles the same pain will return from where it came. There are exercises to strengthen the front pecks and restore balance. Also, cold packs are better than heat for muscle aches from my experience.
ReplyDeleteI decided that when you hit 50 it's all downhill!
ReplyDeleteI am sitting with an ice pack on my achilles tendonitis.
There you go.
