Testing...1...2...3

Our Cousins Party is this coming Saturday and Mom's two sisters and their children and grandchildren will be here to catch up on all our activities since the last time we saw each other.

The highlight of the evening will be the Skype call to Japan.  Mom and her two sisters here in Hawaii will get to speak to their baby sister in Sendai.

My cousin, Ricky (in Tokyo) and I arranged a test call this past Saturday to make sure everything went well.  The Internet connection was choppy and a bit grainy, but it was still thrilling!

We checked on the sound, talked about making sure everybody spoke slowly and determined where they should sit.

Ricky said the new video camera that my daughter, Tiffany and her family gave Art sent a clear, high definition picture to him.

Now... it's just a matter of keeping our fingers crossed that everything works as it should.

  6. Skype really shrinks the world. Hope the connections are clear and good for the party.

  7. Husband always says, his father would roll in his grave if he saw what technology can do these days. Having an at home video conference with Japan relatives would certainly top the list.

    1. ....I should have prefaced that by saying his father always told him his grandfather would roll in his grave as they were watching B&W television in the late 50s. Imagine the shock of seeing people talking from a box he said.

    2. It does boggle my mind what technology can now do for us. When we see our granddaughter after 6 months apart, there's no adjustment period. We can easily take off where we just left off from Face Time.

  9. Should be great fun. I know nothing about Skype. I'm just always behind the curve of technology. It's a chronic characteristic of mine. But I honestly think that's the way I like it. ---Henry Hank Chapin

    1. If you have loved ones very far away, Skype and Face Time just can't be beat. My granddaughter always feels like we're in easy reach. She called today asking to do Face time so she could show us her first wiggly tooth.

  10. How exciting! Your Mom looks like she's enjoying the "test." Maybe everyone should have a little sake toast ready around the world! Your Mom might get some "youngsters" like me to consider using Skype! Have fun! Might want to have two time periods coordinated in case there's a "hiccup" some where. DrumMajor

    1. Unfortunately, it's hard to get all the aunties here together unless I do a Cousins Party. I'm the... ahem... oldest in the family and have to admit the only retired cousin who can do the planning and hosting.

  12. How fun is that. We've done the Skype thing with a niece and our youngest in California at family parties.

  14. Yes, Kay - we agree with you about the local paper! With so much of importance for our island going on this election year it is a shame... Let's VOTE for a new newspaper, LOL
